It has an excellent 24/7 customer support, it doesn’t require long-term commitment, it is user-friendly and includes the same features with all their plans (the difference lies in the number of minutes included and other extra bonuses). On the downside though, 1-VoIP lacks some features found in major competitors, such as third-party integrations and video conferencing.
1-VoIP was founded 40 years ago, but only transitioned to VoIP in 2005. The company is based in Edmond, Oklahoma and has managed to build its reputation thanks to the quality of its service and its impressive customer support.
1-VoIP rebranded quite a few times before settling with its current name. Their initial name was VoIP Your Life and then VYLmedia.
1-VoIP has 3 types of services to offer, covering everything from personal to corporate needs. Their services are: Residential, Business VoIP and SIP Trunking. Each of those services comes with 3 pricing plans you can choose from. In this review, we are going to focus on the Residential and Corporate services.
The Residential service
1-VoIP’s Residential is a reliable cloud alternative to your ordinary phone system. The service is compatible with any type of desk phone, as long as you have an RJ-11 telephone cable.
1-VoIP claims that you will pay up to 50% less if you are using their service.
All features offered by 1-VoIP are included with each of their 3 plans. The difference between plans lies in how many free minutes you get. With pricier plans you also get free shipping.
What are the 3 plans included with the Residential service?
The 3 plans included with the Residential service are Value, US & Canada Unlimited and World Unlimited.
Value
This plan includes unlimited incoming minutes and 500 minutes to North America. You can also keep your phone number.
US & Canada Unlimited
In addition to the unlimited incoming minutes, this plan also includes unlimited calls to North America and free shipping.
World Unlimited
With this plan, you also get the free shipping and unlimited calls to 30 countries worldwide.
All 3 plans include the hardware and don’t require any specific term commitment.
What are the main features included with the Residential service?
Although the list of features is quite extensive, there are still some very important ones missing, such as video conferencing and web SMS.
As we’ve already mentioned it, regardless of the plan you choose, 1-VoIP rents you the hardware, too. However, you will have to take good care of it, because you’ll have to return it when you cancel the service, within max. 2 weeks from cancellation.
Although customers can use both analog and digital phones to connect to the service (the adapter is provided by the company), the Residential service doesn’t offer mobile support. There are also no third party integrations available.
Setup process
When you sign up for 1-VoIP, you will get a Linksys SPA2102 adapter that has an Ethernet port, an internet one and 2 phone lines. There are 9 other types of adapters supported, too.
In addition to the adapter, you also get an instruction manual that guides you through the entire setup process, which takes less than 5 minutes until you get a dial tone.
1-VoIP has a user-friendly interface and in case you have any problems, US customers has access to 24/7 phone support.
The Business Service
As the name indicates it, this 1-VoIP service is tailored for business purposes. There are 3 plans to choose from (Metered, Professional and Corporate – the most expensive one) and they all include the same features, but with more expensive plans, you also get some extra bonuses. For instance, with the Professional plan you also get the phone included and a lower starting cost. With the Corporate plan, you get a lower monthly cost.
There are several phone models to choose from, each with its own price, depending on its capabilities and features.
Main Business features
Overall, 1-VoIP is a reliable service and it is very attentive to its customer needs/problems. It does have its limitations and its Business plans are not the most affordable ones, but it does bring plenty of features and benefits to the table.
