PROS:
CONS:
The GoSafe2 from Philips Lifeline is a complex mobile alert system in the form of a small, comfortable to wear pendant. It is an ‘all in one’ device which uses AT&T and 5 locating technologies, it has an accurate AutoAlert fall detection feature and it is water resistant.
Philips Lifeline boasts on being the #1 medical alert provider which served more than 7.5 million people so far. The company has over 40 years of experience in the field.
The GoSafe2 is the newest medical alert device released by Philips and an ‘all in one’ device, as Philips Lifeline describes it.
It is a small pendant which uses AT&T cellular connection and GPS tracking, it is water ressistant and also includes fall detection. It is a small but complex device.
Design
Compared to other mobile medical alert systems, the GoSafe2 is relatively small in size and also lightweight. It measures 3 x 1.3 x 0.6 inches (H X W X D) and weighs approximately 2oz.
It is white and glossy, it only comes in a necklace version, with a cord and a soft textile collar which makes sure the pendant will stay comfortable around your neck and won’t irritate you in any way. There is no wristband available.
The GoSafe 2 has a big, gray Help button on the front, a microphone and a LED indicator. The speaker is placed on the back. The LED indicator changes its color depending on situation: when you press the Help button it gets red, when the battery is almost empty it goes orange, it flashes green when you charge the device and gets steady green when the GoSafe2 is fully charged.
If the battery is completely empty, you will receive a voice notification letting you know that the device is shutting down.
The charging time of the GoSafe2 is around 1 hour. The battery life lasts up to 3 days on a charge.
Features
The GoSafe2 is a very smart little gadget. While it may look really simplistic, it uses 5 location technologies to track you down, not just GPS tracking, as it is the case with most mobile alert devices. This one uses a combination of A-GPS, WiFi access points (which is especially useful indoors, where the A-GPS is not that effective), location snapshots or ‘breadcrumbs’, the two-way communication (between you and a trained Response Associate) and audio beacon, which works by emitting a really loud sound on your pendant so that the responders can track you down.
One other useful thing about the GoSafe2 is that it has built-in fall detection (AutoAlert). Your pendant is packed with really sensitive accelerometer and barometric sensors and, helped by a complex algorithm, detect when you fall, with a 95% success rate, being able to differentiate between a real fall and false alarms.
The GoSafe2 is water resistant, which means you can stay protected even in the bath tub or in the shower.
The setup process for the GoSafe2 is really simple. First, you make sure your device is fully charged and then simply perform a test by pressing the Help button.
Response times are really impressive with Philips Lifeline and you’ll be connected to one of their reps within approx. 25 seconds. If everything is okay and fully functional, their agent will be able to locate you within seconds.
What is missing with the GoSafe2 are a mobile app and an online portal where you can manage all your data/events.
Other than that though, we consider the GoSafe2 to be a really smart, complex, comfortable ‘all in one’ mobile alert device and you should definitely consider it if you are in a market for a good, reliable medical alert system ‘on the go’. It is a bit pricey but you will get your money’s worth.
The GoSafe2 mobile alert device goes for $44.95/month. You also have to pay a one-time $99.95 device fee. You can opt for self-installation (which will be another $19.95 for the shipping) or Philips technician installation, which will cost you an extra $99. The product comes with a 30-day money back guarantee.
