COMPLETE REVIEW

Medical Guardian was founded in 2005 and is based in Philadelphia. The company specializes in medical alert systems.

The Active Guardian is their newest and most expensive mobile alert system. It has both GPS and WiFi tracking technologies and it is suited for people who are active and don’t spend most of their time in the house. Of course, that doesn’t mean you can’t use the system inside the house too, it simply means it can do more than a landline system can.

The Active Guardian is a high-end system and one of the priciest on the market.

Here are its main specifications:

  • Dimensions (H x W x D): 2.7 x 1.7 x 0.7 inches
  • Weight: 2 ounces
  • Braille lettering
  • IPX5 rating
  • Two- way speaker
  • GPS and WiFi

As you can figure out from the dimensions and weight, the Active Guardian is not the smallest pendant out there. It is however comfortable enough to be worn around your neck. The pendant comes with a lanyard.

It has the emergency button in the middle, which is also with Braille letters and it has four LED indicators below: battery, call status, wireless and GPS status. The two-way speaker is above the emergency button. Then there’s also the charger of the device, which is of course included in the box, along with a clip-on carry case, the manual and instructions for activation.

The Active Guardian device has an impressive battery life: up to 5 days on a single charge. It takes approx. 3 hours to fully charge it.

The IPX5 rating means you can take the Active Guardian with you in the shower. Since a considerable number of accidents happen in the bathroom/shower, it is reassuring to know you can rely on your medical alert system in there as well.

The Active Guardian uses both WiFi and GPS to track your location, which is a useful thing if for instance, you can’t speak but you are able to press the button for help.

The Active Guardian requires activation, but it’s a simple and quick process. You just have to call the number on the instructions and communicate your personal info (name, address, phone number, etc.) You can also add emergency contacts online. Also, when you activate the device, you also have to make a test with the monitoring center, to see that everything works alright.

The response time is really good, just a bit above 20 seconds from when you press the button and until you get connected to an agent. The company claims it has a 100% US based monitoring center.

The Active Guardian from Medical Guardian is definitely a premium product. Aside from its slightly larger size than its closest competitors and aside from the steep price, there’s really nothing negative we can say about this medical alert system.

Pricing

The Active Guardian is quite pricey. It starts at $49.95/month and the price goes up if you also want to activate the fall alert detection service ($10/month), or add other available benefits.
