PROS:
CONS:
LifeStation In Home Plus is a simple but reliable medical alert system, which uses cellular connection to connect you to the monitoring center. There are no special features included and the range is quite limited for the help button, but the response times are good and the LifeStation reps are really helpful and available on a 24/7 basis. Also, the additional fall detection service is cheaper than with most competitors.
LifeStation describe themselves as a ‘leading provider of medical alarm systems’. They are based in New Jersey and they boast on having care specialists who are all CSAA certified.
LifeStation offers 3 types of medical alert systems to choose from, both for home use and on the go.
The three systems are: In Home Traditional, In Home Plus and Mobile with GPS. For each of them you can also add a fall detection button, which you have to pay for separately. The fall detection button is cheaper than with other providers and it costs $7/month.
The In Home Traditional medical alert system is suited for indoor use and works through traditional landlines.
The In Home Plus doesn’t necessarily require a landline, as it works via cellular connection. You should know that you don’t need your own cellular plan for this system.
The Mobile with GPS system is tailored for more active people who need protection on the go. It also works via cellular connection and also has GPS tracking but unlike the In Home Plus, this system has a rechargeable battery, so you are not tied to a socket for power.
We are going to review the In Home Plus system.
Design and features
The In Home Plus medical alert system consists of the base station and a help button. You can choose between a help button to wear as a pendant or on your wrist.
The base unit is black and has 2 large buttons on it: a red HELP button and a green RESET one. You’ve got the speaker on top of the HELP button and the microphone under the RESET button. The HELP button is written in Braille. If you do use the Reset button, you should know that even though it will interrupt the alarm, you will still receive a call from the monitoring center so that they can check if you are okay.
The back of the base unit has an SD card slot where you put the SIM card, a GSM reset button and an on/off one.
The wearable Help button is waterproof and comes in black (the wrist version) and white (the neck pendant). They don’t have the best range out there, it is actually below the average, just around 150 feet when you are outside.
The rechargeable battery inside the base unit, which is useful in case of power outages, has a lifetime of up to 32 hours.
The LifeStation system is really simple and it lacks some additional features others providers use, such as medication reminders, temperature display on the base unit, smoke detection, etc. The response times are good but not the best, but the reps are available 24/7 and are very helpful.
The pricing for the LifeStation At Home Plus is $32.95/month, billed annually, $34.95/month billed quarterly and $36.95/month billed monthly. If you opt for the fall detection feature, it will cost you an extra $7/month. The system comes with free shipping.
