COMPLETE REVIEW

Genius Project is a project management solution developed by Cerri.com, formerly known as Genius Inside. The software was released all the way back in 1997, for the IBM marketplace and it is currently available both as SaaS (web-based) and On-Premise software. It is a valuable addition to any company, not only for the executives, but also for the project manager and the employees. This project management solution is best tailored for enterprises with teams of 50 or more members.

The company that developed it has offices in North America and Europe and over 1,000 customers worldwide. More than 90,000 end users are enjoying Genius Project. Bentley Motors, Oriental Trading Company, Vodafone, Dwyer Instruments and John Hopkins University are among this company’s clients.

If you want to use the web-based version of this software, you should be happy to know that it works with any browser, which is an improvement on their part, because in the past, Genius Project was only compatible with Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.

One important thing to know about Genius Project is that it is SSAE 16 and SOC 2 compliant, which means that security won’t be an issue. The web-based version in hosted by Softlayer, with servers being monitored on a 24/7 basis. Data centers are located in Dallas, Amsterdam, Toronto and Amsterdam and data transfers use 2048-bit industrial grade SSL certificates.

The interface is very user-friendly and you can see improvements in the layout and the added features from one version to another. Genius Project includes all the features you could possibly think of (project planning, resource management, budget management, interactive multi-project Gantt charts, issue management, file sharing, task management, time and expense tracking, status tracking, milestone tracking, etc.) and it is very easy to figure out how to use the basic functions.

Although they offer training and online support, you’ll most likely figure out on your own, and quickly, how to create a project, manage specific tasks, attach documents, leave comments and so on.

In addition to all the basic tools, there are also some key features that make Genius Project stand out.

The Genius Live! platform is a very useful tool that resembles a social media platform. With the help of this feature, users can track all their activity and discuss projects through threads.

The software has a role-based workflow which is customizable, allowing users to set the workflow the way they consider best.

In case there are any unforeseen changes, Genius Project can automatically re-estimate task time allotments.

The software can also run reports that help you improve your projects in the future, you can archive projects and clone them later.

You can attach, edit and share documents and there are 5 free GB included/monthly.

Time is tracked for each particular task and each task is marked as ‘billable’ or ‘non-billable’. However, a single task can involve both billable and non-billable hours.

There is also a risk and change management feature that lets project managers analyze and evaluate any potential risks and their impact on the result and track issues and changes for the project.

Genius Project can also generate invoices in MS Word and export them directly to Excel, can manage the expenses and it has over 500 reporting options available.

There is also a mobile version available, but is only compatible with iOS devices. The app allows users to enter time sheet information. Employees can access their project, send updates and so on.

Genius Project integrates with Salesforce, Sage, SAP, IBM Lotus Notes, Microsoft Office and more.

Pricing

Genius Project offers a free 15-day trial, with no commitment. The only drawback is that in order to benefit from the trial, you have to provide them a corporate e-mail. Also, take note of the fact that Gmail addresses aren’t recognized, at the time of writing this review.

The cloud-based version of the software comes with a yearly subscription that includes online support, access to tutorials and all the updates and upgrades you might need.

The On-Premise version requires you to buy a license with yearly maintenance. There are different license types available, so you have to choose the one that best meets your needs.

However, there are no prices displayed on their website, which does indicate a lack of transparency. You have to fill in a form on their website in order to get an exact price.
