COMPLETE REVIEW

The company was founded in 2001 and it is based in Utah, US. The original name of the company was AtTask but it was changed into Workfront in 2015. They also have offices in China, Japan and UK.

Workflow is a SaaS (software as a service) platform, so there is no installation required.

There are three packages you can choose from: Standard, Select and Premium. They are not very transparent about their pricing though, as you can’t find it anywhere on their website. They also don’t specify the duration of the free trial. These are all details you can find out only after personally contacting them.

The Standard plan includes features such as: the ability to review and approve work and documents, to track and submit timesheets, view reports and dashboards, mobile apps (both iOS and Android compatible), dynamic calendar views, basic integrations, standard education course, 12X5 support hours and 1,5 GB storage per user.

The Select plan comes with all the features included in the Standard package and: Workfront DAM (digital asset management) integration, email collaborations, unlimited reports and requests, 25X5 support hours and 10 GB storage per user.

Their deluxe option is Premium, which includes all the Select features and audit rights, encryption at rest, 24X7X3365 support hours, whitelist IP and 25 GB storage per user.

They also have a free trial, but they don’t specify the period on their website. You can request for the free trial by submitting a form containing your name, email address, phone number, the company’s name and your job title.

As we already mentioned, Workfront allows you to manage work while being away. It is cross-platform compatible. You can access the software from your smartphone (iPhone or Android device) or tablet.

Once you get accustomed to it, the software is pretty straightforward. The platform is highly customizable. You can choose how you see your projects (based on deadlines, tasks, milestones, etc.), you can personalize the dashboard to show you the most important information for you, you can easily add tasks, resources, create projects or enter budget details. Projects can be created from scratch or using their templates or clone projects.

There are also interactive Gantt charts included.

Workfront can manage more than one project at a time. In terms of communication tools, the platform allows employees and executives to easily collaborate. They can track deadlines, assign work, manage approvals and reviews, leave comments and so on.

Workfront gives users real-time and accurate updates and comments from other users. The system can be used by multiple teams, because the accounts can be split into groups. Some features can be automatically configured (for instance projected ROI and alignment).

Workfront gives permissions according to roles, so each user has access to certain tools and data.

Each project also has a score and Workfront prioritizes them based on it. This is useful for project managers who can schedule the projects according to their score.

A drawback is the fact that you don’t have a timer that you can set in order to track the time you spend on a certain task. There are competitors who include this feature (for example LiquidPlanner).

Workfront includes basic integrations with all 3 packages (Box, Outlook, Google Docs and Google Drive, Dropbox, SharePoint, etc.) and some advanced ones, with Select and Premium (Webhooks, API).

The platform allows you to run almost any type of report you could think of.

Once you complete a project you can archive it and use it later for cloning.

In terms of security, Workfront protects your data with 256-bit encryption. You can access trust.workfront.com to view system status or maintenance info 24/7.

Workfront supports SAML 2.0 single sign-on, which helps in managing complex passwords.

Pricing

Workfront offers licenses based on roles: for team members at $360/year and team leaders, at $720/year.

You can contact them via live chat or phone.  You will be greeted by a live chat window at the bottom of the screen as soon as you land on their website. If you want to be contacted by one of their rep, you have to leave them your details first: name, company, email and to specify the nature of your request.

Workfront can also be found on social media: Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, LinkedIn. They have a Resources section on their website, with a blog, various news, videos, articles, case studies and infographics. But despite the fact that there are a lot of resources, many of them are more of an advertising tool than a helpful one. They also offer webinars which can be more useful. If you sign up for their Select or Premium packages, you get 24 hour support during the working days. The reps seem dedicated enough and knowledgeable.
