Sonicare ProtectiveClean 4100 Product Image

Sonicare ProtectiveClean 4100

  • Exceptional Brushing Mode
  • Pressure Sensor
  • Timer and QuadPacer
  • 14-day battery life
  • Brush head replacement reminder
  • Currently $39.95, a price that can't be beat

The SoniCare ProtectiveClean 4100 in a nutshell provides what you need, without the bells and whistels but at a price that will make you easily forget the small features that are left out of this toothbrush.

This model consists of basic fundamental features but that is the important thing. The same technology that is used in the more expensive models is still here but so are the huge price tags that come with them. You still get the straightforward brushing mode, pressure sensor, and a timer with QuadPacer. The elegantly designed 4100 is waterproof as well so you can take it wherever you want without any worries.

Basics aside, a notable feature added on this model is the BrushSync technology which essentially reminds you to replace your equipped brush head every three months or so. This is something commonly placed along with other Sonicare ProtectiveClean series but is not that budget-friendly.

All these amazing features you can get in one toothbrush at a reasonable price. It is totally risk-free, and we highly recommend it.

Oral-B Pro 1000 CrossAction Product Image

Oral-B Pro 1000 CrossAction

  • Best Value toothbrush
  • Pressure Sensor
  • 2-minute timer with QuadPacer
  • Lightweight
  • Brush Head Compatibility

Oral-B Pro 1000 CrossAction is a superb and straightforward rechargeable electric toothbrush that delivers its job perfectly. The price compensates well with the loaded features and offers a superior cleaning over any manual toothbrushes in the market. Although it has a lesser battery life and is restricted to Daily Clean mode only, this electric toothbrush might work for you if you don’t want extra features while keeping your teeth healthy and plaque-free. We really couldn't find a better value for your dollar, but did not give it the top spot because overall the features it had fell short against the much higher priced models.

IONPA DP Ionic electric toothbrush Product Image

IONPA DP Ionic electric toothbrush

  • One, if not the, best cleanings we have felt in our tests
  • WaterProof
  • Nicest looking toothbrush we have reviewed
  • Lighter than comparable sized toothbrushes
  • Wireless charging station
  • Ionic Technology

If you don’t know what an Ionic Toothbrush can do for you and your teeth then I would suggest reading up on it. IONPA is our first Ionic Electric Toothbrush that we are reviewing and we are really impressed.

Overall, this is a great toothbrush that packs a lot of features into its body. It has all the modes and cleaning timers you will need, with an added tech advantage over most electric toothbrushes; which is their Ionic Cleaning which basically gets rid of the bond between plaque and your teeth. This leaves you with an even cleaner than normal feeling after you are done with the IONPA DP. For a company that we had never heard of before , to be at the top of our choices we must say that this is a product worth checking out if you are in the market for an electric toothbrush.

Even before you rip into your new box the one thing that you notice with IONPA is that their packaging is very nice and that doesn’t just start with their box but every aspect of their electric toothbrush set. The tones of colour are vibrant and have a great contrast that are not only eye catching but useful, more on that later.

Oral-B Pro 6000 Product Image

Oral-B Pro 6000

  • Five Cleaning Modes
  • Pressure Sensor
  • 2-minute timer with 30-second QuadPacer
  • Bluetooth Connectivity
  • Contents of the Box

The Oral-B Pro 6000 is a rechargeable electric toothbrush that guarantees a superior clean over a standard manual toothbrush when used for two weeks. A simple press on the power button will start the cleaning option of your choice, accompanied by a Smart Timer and a pressure sensor that will warn if you overbrushed.

The Pro 6000 proudly presents the bells and whistles included for people who like their electric toothbrush to have all the bells and whistles. You can track your progress, improve areas, and repeat to achieve the results you want.

The thing that drops down the ranking on this toothbrush was the combination of price and features. While the features are nice to have, we didn't feel like it would be the end of the world not to have them; so with a higher price tag than other competitors we felt that it didn't justify what you get in return for the money.

Oral-B Genius Pro 8000 Product Image

Oral-B Genius Pro 8000

  • Multiple Cleaning Modes
  • Mobile Coach
  • Position Detection
  • Pressure Sensor

Lots of unique and extra features but could be a pain for the wallet – this is what Oral-B Genius Pro 8000 is. The rechargeable electric toothbrush offers six different cleaning modes, a pressure sensor to prevent you from brushing excessively, and a travel case for people on the go. The Genius Pro 8000 also features its Position Detection and Smartphone Holder as the center of attention to let you have a better brushing experience with the help of their official Oral-B app.

All in all, this is an excellent toothbrush for people who love personalized things with lots of options. However, we don't recommend investing your dollars in this electric toothbrush because of its price. There are other types out there, such as the Pro 1000 CrossAction if you're up for practicality.

Oral-B Smart 1500

  • Three Unique Cleaning Modes
  • Precise Timer with QuadPacer
  • Pressure Sensor
  • 2-week Battery Life
  • Brush Head Compatibility
  • Great value when compared to similiar models

With a reasonable price for its simple but beneficial features, the Smart 1500 rechargeable electric toothbrush is surely a great buy if you want to experience superior oral health care. It has three cleaning modes that you will need, a built-in pressure sensor that warns once you overbrushed and a built-in timer to make sure your teeth are well-cleaned. The only problem you will deal with are missing cleaning mode buttons and grip; other than that, you are good to go.

Overall we found that this model was better than the
Sonicare ProtectiveClean 5100 and the Sonicare ProtectiveClean 6100 due to the features being very similiar but the price being much lower on this unit.

Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 5100 Product Image

Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 5100

  • Three Brushing Options (Clean, White, Gum Care)
  • QuadPacer with Timer
  • Pressure Sensor
  • BrushSync technology
  • Long-lasting battery life

Philips Sonicare's ProtectiveClean 5100 HX6950/60 is a decent electric toothbrush equipped with the basic features to optimize your oral health care: a smart timer with QuadPacer, pressure sensor, unique brushing modes, and long-lasting battery life.

Aside from its common features, Sonicare has added an extra to ProtectiveClean 5100 called BrushSync. It essentially reminds you to replace your brush head so your oral health care quality will always be at highest.  This "feature" doesn't really assist you while brushing your teeth but does remind you to change the head. We felt that this was just as much to get you to buy more heads as it was for your benefit as most people will notice when the cleaning isn't the same as when it was a new head.

The drawback of 5100 is its price when compared to other models and companies. Overall it is not a bad toothbrush but for the price there are a lot better options out there.

Sonicare DailyClean 1100 electric toothbrush Product Image

Sonicare DailyClean 1100 electric toothbrush

  • No-nonsense cleaning mode
  • Great priced for electric toothbrush
  • Precise timer and QuadPacer

The Sonicare DailyClean 1100 lets you have a straightforward cleaning mode with its Clean mode, well-partnered with a built-in timer with QuadPacer to ensure all sections of your teeth are thoroughly brushed.

We do not recommend this product if you like your electric toothbrush to have a lot of features. However, if you are looking for a low priced entry level electric toothbrush to try it out against your manual toothbrush this is a great option.

While using the electric toothbrush, you may run into some problems such as a missing pressure sensor, which could cause an uncomfortable cleaning if it’s your first time with an electric toothbrush. You might not even notice that there is a missing battery status and charging icon. If you do not mind at all, then the 1100 model is for you.

Overall, for the price and what you get for it we rate it pretty high as it does the job it needs to do and at a great price.

Sonicare ProtectiveClean 6100 Product Image

Sonicare ProtectiveClean 6100

  • Triple Cleaning Modes and Intensities
  • BrushSync Technology
  • Pressure Sensor
  • QuadPacer
  • Above-average battery life

Equipped with all the basics and an extra to provide next-level quality health care, the Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 6100 rechargeable electric toothbrush is a great choice to consider for someone looking for a mid tier experience.

For people who want more brushing options and intensities, this electric toothbrush will work for you. But of course, it will not work if you are looking to save some money as it is more on the expensive side . The better alternative we can recommend is the Sonicare ProtectiveClean 4100. Both are technically the same, except it has only one cleaning mode. Regardless, we still recommend you consider 6100 to experience next-level quality oral health while having lots of brushing modes to choose from. The 4100 is one of our highest rated sets so we suggest taking a look at that review and comparing the cost of the additional features you get with the 6100 versus the 4100.

With its 2 cleaning modes of Daily Clean and Sensitive that can be partnered with Oral B’s abundant brush heads, users can have a lot of variations when brushing their teeth. Oral-B Genius X Limited Product Image

Oral-B Genius X Limited

  • Built-in Timer and Pacer
  • Multiple Cleaning Modes
  • Pressure Sensor
  • Travel Case
  • Nice finish and appereance

The Oral-B Genius X Limited is an electric toothbrush that works well for people on the go. Whether you're on a long trip or a 2-week vacation, this toothbrush is worth including in your backpack. It is sturdy, waterproof, and elegant on the outside and has many quality features to take your brushing to the next level – multiple cleaning modes, a pressure sensor, a timer with QuadPacer, and quality bristles.

While it enjoys praise from many customers, it has its drawbacks. Some examples would be the quality of the accessories, which are lower than other Genius X variants, and their mobile application needs an improvement in the graphics department to educate their user.

Overall, Oral-B Genius X Limited is a pretty good toothbrush, but practically speaking, there are better electric toothbrushes out there with the same functions but more features that don't cost as much; so it is a good toothbrush but compared to others its value just isn’t there. As far as the ranking goes the features and quality of this toothbrush are very high, but we also judge the price against what you get out of the toothbrush for the price aka the value. And as far as dollar to output we have to rank other models above this one.

Gleem Battery Electric Toothbrush Product Image

Gleem Battery Electric Toothbrush

  • Affordable price
  • Comes with a travel case
  • Lightweight

The Gleem Battery Electric toothbrush gives you performance expected from its price which is not necessarily bad, but shouldn't be looked at as a day to day electric toothbrush. Operated using a triple A battery, the product is good for those who want to bring it for travels and camping especially because it comes with a travel case. However, it does not give the best cleaning performance compared to the other brands, and it feels a bit light. As a throw away toothbrush this might be an option, but if you invest a bit more you can get a lot better quality of cleaning from other brands.

The Gleem Battery Electric toothbrush gives you performance expected from its price which is not necessarily bad. Operated using a triple A battery, the product is good for those who want to bring it for travels and camping especially because it comes with a travel case. An older model but still a good option, the AI-assisted brushing experience comes in at a reasonable price – therefore, the Pro 3000 3D still makes it onto our list of top electric toothbrushes but is a bit further down the list than it would have been in the past years. It has the same features as some of the other models but you can feel that it is not the newest technology. Sonicare ProtectiveClean 6500 Product Image

Sonicare ProtectiveClean 6500

  • Premium Travel Case
  • BrushSync enabled
  • Three Cleaning Modes and Intensities
  • Pressure Sensor
  • Built-in Timer

The Sonicare ProtectiveClean 6500 is a pretty good toothbrush, but its price tag really hurts its ratings because it just doesn’t live up to the price tag. It comes with a lot of bells and whistles but is just too expensive for what you get in return. Don’t get us wrong, it is a really good toothbrush and lots of people love it but when we compare the value it just doesn’t compete. The travel case is a great addition and can charge on the go, but do you really need it and is it worth the additional costs?

Set aside the price and theProtectiveClean 6500 is well-equipped with the basics: three cleaning modes and intensities, a pressure sensor, and a smart timer, which dictates your brushing duration. Hence, this electric toothbrush is a solid choice for healthy and shining teeth but at a cost.

Oral-B Pro-Health Clinical Electric toothbrush Product Image

Oral-B Pro-Health Clinical Electric toothbrush

  • Replaceable battery
  • Can use multiple different cleaning heads
  • The cheapest toothbrush we reviewed
  • If you lose it you won't be as upset as if you spent more money on other models
  • A good try out product if you have never tried an electric toothbrush before

Oral-B Pro-Clinical Health is a basic and very budget-friendly electric toothbrush worth checking out if you want to see what it’s like to have an electric toothbrush. We find that this might be something you keep on hand as a last resort if you can’t stand manual toothbrushes. It still offers an upgrade versus a manual toothbrush but is made to be a disposable electric toothbrush.

The Pro-Clinical Health is a non-rechargeable electric toothbrush, which means you do not have to replenish its battery life overnight or worry about breaking while charging. However, you will need to invest a few dollars for two pieces of AA batteries to get your electric toothbrush functional in the long term, which can get expensive.

Although it lacks some essential and extra features such as the pressure sensor and QuadPacer, Oral-B Pro-Health Clinical is much recommended for people looking for a very cheap electric toothbrush. At a price that is comparable to 5 or 6 normal toothbrushes you could argue that it is what you should be expecting out of it, but for only $15 more you can get a much more dependable electric toothbrush that will last you a lot longer, and has a rechargeable battery so we really can’t recommend this for anything other than a last option for an electric toothbrush.

All About Electric Toothbrushes
Electric toothbrush

While the product is quite common, there are a lot of questions that users have with electric toothbrushes. The simplest definition of it is that it is a toothbrush that uses electricity for brushing the teeth. It aims to provide users with better cleaning with its automated brushing along with its abundant features that are made possible by the technology that it uses. The product has been around since the 90’s but has experienced continued popularity among all age groups because of its convenience along with its innovations that its producers continue to add for every new version.

How does it work?

Electric toothbrushes can help you achieve cleaning results equivalent or even better to that of the manual toothbrush. This is made possible with the various cleaning methods that it employs which depends upon the brand and the model that you are using.

The first cleaning method is with the use of side to side vibration that is aimed towards the surface of the teeth. This is the closest to what is done using a traditional toothbrush. Most of the time, it manages to do the job but with the exception of some very tiny gaps where food may occasionally be stuck in.

For this, some brands offer more advanced cleaning modes. First is the rotating and oscillating brush mode which uses a round brush where each half of the bristles move independently. This makes it easier to clean almost all parts of the teeth. Some companies also offer circular brushing. Some also use the sonic method where the brush head uses ultrasonic frequencies to brush the teeth, making scrubbing very easy. This also aims to lessen the pressure applied by the user to the brush.

When these brushing techniques are read, users may be overwhelmed with the number of options they have. The main thing to remember, however, is that almost all of these modes are capable of doing the job of maintaining the teeth for long-term dental hygiene, lessening the chance for cavities and gum infections to occur with the technology. Even the most basic technique of side to side cleaning may just be enough for users as long as they properly brush through all sides of the teeth to make it free from any remaining food particles similar to a manual toothbrush. The technology is recommended for those with a little more budget, though.

Is it better than manual toothbrushes?

Compared to manual toothbrushes, the main disadvantage of electric brushes is its higher price. This is to be expected for almost all electric brushes as its technology requires it to have a higher selling point. This may discourage those who are on a budget to skip on buying the product.

However, when seen for the long-term usage, users may find it better to purchase an electric toothbrush. This is because most of these come with replaceable brush heads which means that it can last longer compared to manual brushes which are recommended to be used only for up to three months. This is to avoid it becoming too unhygienic to use as after a while, the bacteria that comes from the mouth may start growing on the brush if it is not replaced. For electric brush owners, they simply need to replace the brush head except for the whole brush.

What are the features of an electric toothbrush?
Electric toothbrush

Cleaning performance

The first feature is the cleaning performance of the electric toothbrush. As stated earlier, these employ different technologies for cleaning the teeth which can clean the sides of the teeth that are hard to reach. Most electric brushes can produce up to more than 20,000 movements per minute or more compared to the traditional brushes’ 600 movements per unit. This makes it much more effective in removing plaque and food debris in the mouth. This also makes it easier to whiten the teeth. This does not mean that traditional brushes are worse at cleaning, rather, electric brushes are just easier to use which makes users without much time every day capable of gaining good cleaning results.

Variety of brush heads

Aside from having lots of vibrations per minute, electric brushes also come with various brush heads that are detachable. These brush heads have their own specializations for different users. These ranges from those that are made for whitening the teeth, those that offer 3D cleaning, those for sensitive teeth, and more. Some come with the electric brushes while some are purchased separately. These brush heads can regularly be changed depending on what you need. These are recommended to be used for 3 months at most to get the best cleaning from your brush.

Various brushing modes

Along with the various brush heads, electric brushes also have various brushing modes. These are different in terms of their intensity and may even be specifically made for the brush heads of the unit. This makes it easier to look for the ideal amount of power for your teeth that may change depending if you want average cleaning, teeth whitening, or cleaning for sensitive teeth.

Bluetooth pairing

Some brushes can be connected to your mobile phone using Bluetooth technology. After downloading the application, users are guided through their brushing process. This reminds them to brush through the quadrants of the teeth thoroughly, coming with a timer that dedicates up to 30 seconds for each. Other advanced features such as brush head replacement and pressure sensors can also be seen through the application. The application may also come with additional widgets that make it easier to start the day. This feature can usually be seen with more advanced models which come with higher prices.

Brush head replacement and pairing

Some companies have installed RFID chips inside the brush heads which can pair with the electric brush. Through this, the unit can instantly choose the best cleaning mode for the specific brush head such as a slower intensity for sensitive brush heads. This can make it more convenient to use and removes the need to stress over the different cleaning modes of the brush. Aside from this, some also offer brush head replacement warnings sent to the user through the mobile application that is determined by the unit by the number of vibrations and the pressure of the brush head to the teeth. This makes it easier to remember to replace the brush.

Pressure sensors

Because electric brushes remove the need to manually guide the unit with the cleaning motion, these units come with pressure sensors. These warn users instantly in case they are pressing the unit too hard to their teeth. This is important as overbrushing can lead to damaged teeth enamel which may make it more vulnerable to damage. The pressure sensor comes in two forms. First is the audio warning which buzzes as soon as you apply too much pressure. Second is the light sensor. Some also instantly stops the vibrations of the brush or lessens its intensity if you press it too hard to avoid damaging your teeth. This is an especially helpful tool for children who are still learning how to brush properly.

Portability

While others may believe that electric brushes are strictly for homes, they may be pleased to know that some have battery lives that can last up to a whole month at full charge. This makes it very easy to carry around for trips and places where an electric outlet may not always be available. Some electric brushes may also run using disposable batteries although this may be less frequent nowadays.

Convenience of use

As mentioned before, electric toothbrushes are definitely more convenient to use compared to traditional brushes because of its automatic vibrations. Because of this, people with limited mobility may find it the only type of brush that they are able to use. Aside from this, children may also find it better to use every day because of the less effort needed to operate it along with the additional features that it has. With these brushes, users can simply direct the brush to the different parts of the teeth instead of having to apply pressure to clean the food debris inside.

Aside from this, most of these brushes are built to be used for only up to two or three minutes at most that is most made possible by its good brushing ability. This makes it less time consuming and more favorable for those who are on a rush every day.

Eco-friendlier

These brushes only need to replace its brush heads every three months instead of having to dispose the entire unit. Because most manual toothbrushes are made of plastic and silicone, a lot of users contribute to the collection of plastic waste every year whenever they replace their toothbrushes. With electric brushes, they can help lessen these.

What should you look for in an electric toothbrush?

If you plan to transition to electric toothbrushes, there are a lot of factors to consider. However, some may be prioritized if you have specific needs.

First is the price to feature value of the toothbrush. There are simple brushes that are priced affordably but offer very good cleaning performance even without much variety which may be enough for some. However, there are also those that are high-priced ones that come with unnecessary features. This is why it is important to do a thorough check of the product first.

The other factors that you should consider include the price, the features, the cleaning performance, and the design of the toothbrush. For this, reading online reviews may be helpful for you to be able to read firsthand experiences of the toothbrush before buying one.

What are the downsides of using electric toothbrushes?

While these have a lot of benefits offered, it also has its fair share of downsides. As mentioned, the price of purchasing one initially is expensive compared to traditional brushes that is mainly because of the technology it uses for cleaning along with the components that come with it (brush heads, charger, portable cases, and more).

Next is the durability of the unit. While the unit itself will not shatter easily as a plastic brush may when dropped on a hard bathroom floor, its internal components may start to malfunction once this happens. Users need to be more careful in holding it to avoid this.

Is it more recommended?

Electric brushes are definitely more recommended when the long-term benefits are considered. The fact that its brush heads can be replaced makes its higher price justifiable. This, along with the cleaning technology and features it has makes it a better option for all users. It is a good investment for those looking for better cleaning performance, more convenience for everyday cleaning, and for less contribution to plastic waste. It also doesn’t hurt that these units come with sleek designs that make it look expensive.
