COMPLETE REVIEW

Inada is a Japanese family owned business and as they describe themselves, ‘the world’s leading manufacturer of shiatsu-based automatic massage chairs’. The company is based in Osaka and was founded in 1962. Inada has received several awards for its innovative, high-end massage chairs and the DreamWave chair is one of the most expensive and exceptional massage chairs on the market today.

The DreamWave has the following specifications:

  • Dimensions fully upright (W X L X H): 36.5 x 55 x 47 inches
  • Dimensions fully reclined: 38 x 83 x 30 inches
  • User height range: 5’0” to 6’5”
  • Weight: 265 lbs.
  • 100 Air Cells
  • Pre-programmed massages: 8
  • 18 manual massage types
  • recline angle: 170 degrees
  • 5 watt seat warmer
  • 13 motors

We don’t know if the DreamWave is indeed the best massage chair in the world, as Inada claims, but it is pretty close to perfection. Initially released under the name of Sogno DreamWave (in the new version simply called DreamWave), the DreamWave massage chair manages to perfectly showcase the true Japanese craftsmanship.

It is a full-body massage chair, it has an S-Track design with quad rollers that follow your spine’s curve. There are still people who prefer the L-track design because it also extends to the glutes and thighs, but nevertheless, the DreamWave can deliver a great, relaxing yet still gentle massage.

The DreamWave comes in several colors: cream, brown, black, red and Trublack. In terms of upholstery you can choose between synthetic leather and top-grain leather in TruBlack.

The chair comes with a pretty large remote control with cable, which can be snuggled into the chair’s pocket. It has several big buttons on it. While they are pretty logically organized, you do have to spend some time with the remote in order to fully master it and take advantage of all the DreamWave’s possibilities and features.

While it does have a Zero Gravity feature, it only has one position, not two or three, as other cheaper competitors offer. Its maximum recline angle is 170 degrees. Given the price, this is definitely a con for the DreamWave.

Features

The DreamWave uses a patented body scan technology to customize your massage session according to your body’s specific needs. The entire scanning procedure takes around one minute, because the chair needs to locate your pressure points and adjust the rollers so that you’ll get a more accurate and personalized massage.

The DreamWave has 8 presets to choose from, from full body massage to stretch, quick, night and others. One unique preprogrammed massage option is the Youth one, specifically designed for people as young as 14 and older.

One other useful feature on the DreamWave is its built-in heat function for the seat and back. The seat can warm up to 102 degrees. You can choose to enable the heat function for both the back and seat or just for one of the 2.

For a better blood circulation you can also use the vibration mode which acts on the back.

Another noteworthy feature in the DreamWave is its body stretch mode, which is very useful and effective for people who suffer from chronic back pain. You will obtain impressive results if you use the DreamWave regularly. However, you shouldn’t abuse the chair and go above 30 minutes of use continuously. The DreamWave has an adjustable timer and you can set it from 5 to 30 minutes.

One of the biggest strengths of the DreamWave is its air massage feature, which is the most impressive we’ve seen in a massage chair so far. The DreamWave uses no less than 101 airbags which are strategically positioned, to offer you a thorough and comprehensive air massage. This is an impressive number of air bags and Inada gives you the freedom to activate which one you want, based on areas or your preferences. You can also customize the air pressure in them.

The DreamWave is an insanely expensive massage chair, which is why it is a bit disappointing to see that there are features missing from it, such as Bluetooth connectivity, music support, or the fact that it only has one position for the Zero Gravity feature. But even so, the DreamWave is a hard to defeat competitor, with a flawless design, durable built quality, a ton of customizable features and smart, innovative Japanese technologies.

Pricing

The Inada DreamWave massage chair can be purchased for $9,000. It comes with a 3-year limited warranty.
