COMPLETE REVIEW

PureVPN was developed in 2007 by GZ Systems, a company based in Hong Kong. It was first launched as client software for Mac and PC in 2009 and in 2011 the company launched mobile versions, compatible with Android and iOS.

Although PureVPN didn’t use to have as many servers as major competitors, it's managed to catch up and it currently has more than 2,000 servers, spread out in more than 140 countries worldwide.

This VPN is also compatible with several gaming consoles, Smart TV, Amazon Fire, Kodi and other devices.

PureVPn currently has over 1 million customers.

PureVPN accepts payments through credit card, PayPal, Alipay, Cashu, PaymentWall or coins or gift cards.

All 3 plans include the same features. Here are the most important ones:

  • AES 256 encryption
  • Unlimited data transfer and server switching
  • 1-click antivirus protection
  • DNS leak protection
  • Internet Kill Switch
  • Split Tunneling
  • Ad blocking

PureVPN supports several protocols: OpenVPN, PPTP, SSTP, L2TP/IPSec, IKEv2.

It also allows P2P sharing and BitTorrent on more than 200 servers.

The interface is very user-friendly and intuitive. Once you are logged in, you will be asked what you want to use the VPN for. You get 5 options: internet freedom, streaming, security, file sharing, remote/dedi IP (dedicated IP). Based on your preferences (which can be more than one), you will be given a customized experience. Next, you have to choose a location and type of encryption. You will see stats of speed and security for each option and all the servers that support P2P will be marked.

One feature that we particularly liked was the split tunneling, which allows you to choose what kind of traffic will go through your VPN, because not all your online activities will require the same level of security.

PureVPN allows up to 5 simultaneous devices.

One disadvantage with this VPN is the fact that it can't unblock Netflix. Netflix has banned a lot of VPNs and, unfortunately, this one is also on their list. Another drawback is the fact that PureVPN is not really “logs free”. While they don’t keep the logs of the websites you visit, they do record the total bandwidth you used and the connection time, which we don’t really get, since they offer unlimited bandwidth with all their plans.

On the bright side, Windows computers can also benefit of the Virtual Router feature, which lets you turn your computer into a router and connect up to 10 devices. Unfortunately, this feature is not yet available for Macs.

If you are willing to pay an additional fee ($4.99/month), you can also get a dedicated IP address and DDoS protection ($5.99/month).

Another useful add-on is the NAT firewall, which protects you from surveillance agencies, hackers and any other cyber attackers.

The mobile apps for Android and iOS look very similar. Performance-wise though, we found the iOS app to be better, because it was faster and more stable. The Android app crashed a few times during our tests.

Pricing

PureVPN has three available plans and it comes with 31- day money back guarantee.

1 Month plan: $10.95/month

6 months plan: $8.95/month

2 years plan: $3.25/month

Performance

PureVPN is beyond doubt the fastest VPN provider we’ve tested so far. All VPNs affect your speed performance, but with this VPN is the harmless of them all and you can hardly notice any difference between being connected to the VPN or not. PureVPN was also stable during all our tests.
