PROS:
CONS:
NordVPN is indeed a tough competitor to beat, because it manages to offer some of the most requested features customers look for in a VPN provider: top-notch security, P2P support and unlimited bandwidth and the capability to unblock geo-restricted content: Netflix, Hulu and access to almost 150 more streaming services. It can block annoying ads, it keeps no logs and has more than 5,000 servers located all over the Globe. Our only ‘thumb down’ would be for the fact that it dropped a few connections during our testing period.
NordVPN is a relatively new service, launched only in 2012. It is rated in the top 5 VPN services on the market.
It is based in Panama and it currently has over 1 million customers worldwide. NordVPN has an impressive number of servers, more than 5,000, spread all over the world (in 62 countries) and some of them are specialized servers.
This VPN service includes a free 3-day trial and 30 days money back guarantee.
NordVPN accept payments through credit/debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Amex, Discover), PayPal, Bitcoin or other methods via Paymentwall.
As we already mentioned, NordVPN has over 5,100 servers located in 62 countries across the Globe. You can see a list with all the servers here: https://nordvpn.com/servers/
The great thing about NordVPN is that it has optimized servers (for example, servers for P2P, BitTorrent, etc.).
NordVPN meets a lot of the general expectations customers have when looking for a VPN service. Here are its most important features:
With NordVPN SmartPlay you can access up to 150 streaming services, including Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Discovery, ABC Go, Cartoon Network, VH1, NBC Sports and other. It can also unblock websites that are censored in China.
This VPN services supports macOS, Windows and Linux and they have apps compatible with iOS and Android.
The supported protocols are PPTP, OpenVPN (on everything except iOS), L2TP, IKEv2, IPSec.
The interface has a slick design and it is very user-friendly. When you first launch the program, you have to specify for what purposes you are going to use it, whether it is streaming, torrenting or simply for security. You can select more than one option.
You can also choose a server by consulting their map or alphabetically. You can’t narrow it down to cities, but you can specify a country and the service will find the best server option for it. There are also displayed stats for each server, related to their capacity and speed.
We also appreciated the fact that NordVPN can block ads and malware, which is not a feature you find in all competitors.
NordVPN has 3 plans: Simple, Best Offer and Standard.
The Simple plan is a 1-month plan and it costs $11.95/month
The Best Offer plan is a-1year plan and goes for $5.75/month ($69 billed annually)
The Standard plan is a 6-month plan and it costs $7/month ($42 billed every 6 months).
NordVPN guarantees a 99% uptime. Based on the tests we performed, this VPN does a really good job on domestic servers, but we had a few drops on international ones, even when the service chose the server itself. Overall though, you shouldn’t have any problems gaming or streaming 1080 HD videos.
While it is generally known that VPNs usually slow down your speed, we had no issues when streaming with NordVPN activated. It also doesn’t affect your computer’s performance in almost any way.
