SUMMARY:

COMPLETE REVIEW

Fax.com is another redundant faxing service which won’t ask its users to download or install any software. Faxing can be started immediately upon signing up and doing it is very easy, whether you use the web suite or email as means of sending and receiving. Compared to TrustFax, Fax.com brings a higher per-page value, but also a higher overage cost. You can fax to and from wherever in the world and use some of its many features.

The Web suite allows plenty of settings which lets users define inbound fax file formats: PDF or TIFF, toggle receive by email on and off, the purpose of body texts in email faxing, notification settings and else. An extensive reporting suite can display fax number, time, duration, number of pages, ANI, and CSID, along with the destiny/status of every fax. Faxes can be sent to up to five recipients simultaneously and inbound faxes can be received by up to two email addresses. There are no specific limits for the amount of email addresses used for sending.

Fax.com works on a highly reliable j2 Global’s infrastructure which hasn’t seen any outage for years. New users are welcomed to Fax.com with a 30-day free trial.

NUMBER OPTIONS

Fax.com includes a toll-free 866 or local number which can refer to locations in 50 US states. You can also get additional numbers for $10 per number monthly.  Numbers used with Fax.com support international faxing and are never busy, so even if several people are faxing you at the  same time, their faxes will go through. Porting existing numbers to Fax.com is not possible, neither is possible to port out numbers used with the Fax.com service. The only way to maintain the number is to remain subscribed to a Fax.com plan as long as possible. This service supports international faxing.

If the number to which you’re trying to send a fax doesn’t accept it for a reason, it will make four additional attempts.

PORTABILITY AND INTEGRATIONS

Although Fax.com does not offer any mobile or desktop apps, mailing is still possible using email and the Web suite. The suite is not responsive, but it is redundant and can run smoothly even on smartphones, which is great for those who need mobility, but have security concerns regarding faxing over email. If email faxing is OK, it is even easier, since you can fax to recipientnumber@fax.com.

The service can convert Group 3 TIF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML, plain text, RTF, GIF, JPEG, PNG, SNP and PDF files into fax messages, while for receiving users can choose between PDF and TIF. The list of supported files for sending is not complete, you can contact the provider to ask if a certain file format other than those mentioned here are supported.

SECURITY AND ARCHIVES

Faxing to and from a user’s email account can be additionally secured by restricting the access to fax messages to certain persons and certain reading times. When this security is enabled, you can let other people access your email inbox, but they won’t be able to read your faxes and body text messages accompanying them. Online fax accounts can be password-protected whilst the faxes sent and received via the Web suite is based on an SSL-secured website.

Unlimited storage is possible, but for a fee. All faxes users send and receive are kept for 30 days, and any additional month is charged $0.05 per fax. To avoid billing, you can choose auto deletion after the free 30-day period and make sure these faxes are securely stored somewhere else before the due date for deletion.

BOTTOM LINE

Although it is not the cheapest and does not have some of the latest gimmick features often emphasized by the competition, Fax.com remains one of the leading online faxing services thanks to its unbeatable simplicity and praised reliability. This service is good for small businesses who want to exchange a lower amount of faxes securely and quickly.

Pricing

Fax.com offers perhaps the lowest flexibility on the entire internet fax market. There is just a single plan which costs $10 and includes 300 combined fax pages for sending and receiving within the US and Canada. Annual prepayment discounts don’t exist. Everything goes month by month, and there are no contracts. The service can be canceled anytime. Pages in overage cost $.12 which is the highest overage page expense we encountered on the market.

For international faxing, this service maintains the International rate chart which is subject to frequent changes. The current chart will be sent to users and prospects upon request.

Help/Support

Phone: 888.429.4615

The Fax.com website offers several step-by-step demos which thoroughly explain how to send or receive faxes, how to adjust settings and user preferences, generate reports and manage the account filesystem. Demos contain videos which explain very precisely when and what to click, which is great for less tech-savvy employees. The FAQs also offer some comprehensive answers.  If you have some different inquiries, there are two ways of contacting: live toll-free phone support available during business hours, and a ticket system.
