COMPLETE REVIEW

Digital photo frames are a nice addition to any home, but they shouldn’t break the bank. The Tenker 7 is just that kind of digital photo frame that anyone can afford. It is 7-inch, it has several useful features and it costs under $50.

Here are the main specifications of the Tenker 7-inch:

  • Dimensions: 6.1 x 3.43 x 6.97 inches
  • Weight: 8 ounces
  • Resolution: 1024 X 600
  • Aspect ratio: 16:9
  • Power adapter length: 3.9 feet
  • Input: AC 100-240V
  • Output: DC 5V 1-1.5A
  • USB cable: 2.6 feet
  • USB and SD Card ports
  • Frame storage: 8 MB

The Tinker 7 is a really simple digital frame. It doesn’t have WiFi or Bluetooth, but it does have other useful features such as the ability to play music and videos. It is pretty versatile in terms of supported formats, be it for photos, music or videos. Here are the supported formats for each:

Photos: JPEG, JPG, BMP

Audio: MP3, MPEG, AAC, WMA, OGG, APE, WAV

Video: AVI, MOV, MP4, MKV, MPG, 3GP, VOB

The frame is encased in black plastic and has no touchscreen, you can only control it through the included remote control. It has an ordinary look, nothing particularly attractive or special about its design.

The Tenker allows you to display your images both in landscape and portrait mode, but it lacks the internal gyroscope so it won’t rotate them according to the horizontal/vertical position of it.

The remote control is small but crowded with buttons: you’ve got your power, menu and setup buttons on top and under that row, there are buttons for Photos, Music and Movie. You’ve also got your up, down, left, right arrows, playback and Enter controls and a Rotate button on the bottom left.

The internal memory of the Tenker is basically inexistent, just 8MB, so with no WiFi or Bluetooth support, you have to purchase a card (the digital frame supports SD, SDHC, MS, MMC, up to 32GB) or a USB drive to be able to use the frame. Neither are included in the package when you purchase the frame.

The Tenker 7 also has Calendar and Clock functions so you can also display the date and time along with your images. You can also set an alarm if you want to.

The frame includes 10 transitions between images and the longest time for an image to be displayed is 15 minutes. That is a bit below average, as many competitors offer 24 hours as the longest display time.

While it has quite a few capabilities for such an inexpensive frame, the Tenker is not that responsive. There is an annoying delay when giving a command through the remote control, which can get frustrating over time. The image quality is decent, but not great.

The Tenker 7-inch is definitely a budget digital picture frame. It does lack a lot of common features such as a touchscreen, WiFi and Bluetooth support, a decent internal storage space. It is not the fastest digital frame out there, but it will do its job and it does try to compensate in other aspects, for instance through its ability to play music and videos.

Pricing

You can get the Tenker 7-inch digital photo frame for $42 on Amazon. The product comes with a 1-year warranty and the package also includes a battery operated remote control, a USB cable, a power adapter, a stand and the manual.
