PROS:
CONS:
The PhotoSpring is a WiFi digital frame with a 10” display and HD resolution. It is easy portable thanks to its built-in rechargeable battery which lasts up to 4 hours on a single charge.
PhotoSpring is a startup founded by 2 workers from Sony Japan. The company was founded in 2014 and manufactures digital photo frames.
They boast on ‘redefining’ digital frames and they call their WiFi, 10-inch digital photo frame we are going to review, ‘the most advanced photo frame ever built’.
Here are the main specs of the PhotoSpring 10”:
Design
The PhotoSpring digital picture frame is a smart, WiFi frame and it comes in several colors: white, black, green, blue, turquoise, red.
The frame has a white, glossy housing made of plastic and has a 1.25 in border, which comes in one of the aforementioned colors, at your choice.
The frame might feel a bit bulky and not that premium at feel, as there is no metal finish or so, such as with the iPad for instance. But what it lacks in design, the PhotoSpring compensates through its features.
The frame comes with its white charging stand and has only one silver power button on the back (on top). It is simple and also features a PhotoSpring logo on the back. You can use the frame horizontally or vertically, depending on the displayed content.
The speakers are located on the bottom and you’ve also got a 3.5mm jack if you want to use the frame with headphones (the frame can play videos, too).
The display of the frame is 10-inch, it is bright and the PhotoSpring frame has an HD resolution (1280X800).
Features and how to use it
The PhotoSpring frame is a smart, WiFi gadget, which means you don’t need SD cards or USB sticks to upload the content.
The setup process of the frame is hassle free and it is a few minutes job. The frame works through its companion app, which is compatible with Mac and Windows computers, Android and iOS smartphones.
All you have to do is download the app, create a PhotoSpring account and follow the simple steps.
Next, you simply upload/transfer your photos and videos on the frame, via the computer or your smartphone/tablet.
You can also invite others to send photos/videos to the frame and the shared images will automatically be displayed on the frame.
The PhotoSpring supports several image and video formats (see the specs above). The 2W speakers allow you to also play videos.
The frame comes with 16GB internal storage, which translates into approximately 40 minutes of videos and around 15,000 images.
The frame has all the features you want in such a device. You can use the settings to create slideshows, set certain photos as favorites, create playlists, etc. You can also apply filters and view the content based on different criteria: date, time, location. You can schedule the frame, adjust the brightness and volume, the slideshow interval and more. The touchscreen is really responsive.
The frame also displays the time and the battery status.
One unique feature of the PhotoSpring is its internal, rechargeable Li-Ion battery, which makes the PhotoSpring frame portable. You don’t necessarily have to keep it on your furniture constantly plugged in, because the built-in battery lasts for up to 4 hours on a single charge. The rechargeable battery is a rare feature in a digital photo frame, but definitely a useful one.
In conclusion, the PhotoSpring is a smart, modern frame, easy to use and set up. And the fact that it can be used without being constantly plugged in, thanks to its built-in rechargeable battery, is a great bonus.
The PhotoSpring has a price of approximately $160.
