PROS:
CONS:
Nixplay Edge is a WiFi digital frame with video capabilities and a user-friendly interface. While it may be a bit pricey ($145) for an 8 inch photo frame, it is smart, easy to use and has a lot of useful features.
Nixplay Edge is developed by Nixplay, a division of Creedon Technologies, just like NIX. Creedon Technologies is a British company founded in 2007. The company has offices in UK, US, Canada, China, Philippines.
Nixplay’s digital photo frames are very popular and NixPlay Edge makes no exception. This digital photo frame comes in 2 sizes: an 8 inch display and a 13 inch display. We reviewed the 8 inch version.
Here are the main specs for the Nixplay Edge 8”:
The Nixplay Edge has a slim design and is only available in black. It comes with an infra-red remote control and a removable stand. The one problem we noticed about the stand is that it orientates the frame at a weird angle, almost 90 degrees, which affects the view of the photos. There’s always the option of hanging the frame on a wall though, so it’s not that big a deal. The buttons of the frame are on the back.
The Edge is definitely a smart frame and its WiFi capabilities makes it easy to access and display on it all your photos from Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms. You can also allow others to share photos.
The Nixplay app allows you to manage up to 5 frames with a single account.
The frame’s display quality is good and photos look crisp and colorful. The frame reflects light a bit which may be annoying at times, but other than that, the image is great.
The motion sensor of the frame is very useful and it can be set to turn on the screen only when someone enters the room. You can also opt to leave it always on, if you like.
The Nixplay Edge doesn’t support all image formats, only JPEG/JPG/PNG. It doesn’t know AVI either, GIF or BMP. On the other hand, you can play H.264 videos at 720p, but only from USB or card, not directly over WiFi.
Photos on the site are organized in playlists and you can choose from different transition effects between images, add captions, play photos randomly, adjust the resolution or the time for each photo, before the frame switches to another image. You can let a photo on for at least 5 seconds or up to 30 minutes.
Nixplay offers free 10GB of cloud storage. The mobile app is free and compatible with iOS and Android. You can transfer photos from your mobile device to the frame via Bluetooth.
Nixplay Edge is a simple, smart digital photo frame. It has a few limitations in terms of supported formats (photo, video) but it has all the basic features of a smart WiFi frame. The image quality is good and the frame is easy to set up and operate.
The price of the Nixplay Edge 8 inch is $144.99 both on the official Nixplay shop and on Amazon. In the box you get the frame itself, the power adaptor, an infra-red remote and a quick start guide. The Nixplay Edge comes with 30 day money back guarantee and 1 year parts & labor warranty.
