The KEF Muo is a high-end, exquisite Bluetooth speaker. It is not for the average consumer, merely because it too expensive. COMPLETE REVIEW

KEF Muo is produced by KEF, a British company that manufactures loudspeakers. KEF was founded in 1961, in Tovil, Maidstone.

The Muo is top-end Bluetooth speaker, for the pretentious audiophile. It doesn’t have some of the basic features found in major competitors, such as water resistance or built-in speakerphone and it is also quite expensive, but it compensates it all through its impeccable sound quality.

Main specifications:

  • Dimensions (H x W x D): 80 x 210 x 60 mm (3.1 x 8.3 x 2.3 inch)
  • Weight: 0.8 kg (1.8 lbs.)
  • Bluetooth capacity: 2 devices
  • Bluetooth memory: 8 devices
  • Li-ion rechargeable battery, up to 12 hours of playback time
  • 3.5 mm AUX
  • Bluetooth range: 10m

The Muo has an attractive design: it is covered in aluminum which makes it solid and durable and also helps to eliminate any undesired vibrations. The sides have rubberized plastic caps and there are also some rubber pads on the bottom. It has an overall classy look and it is light enough to carry it around. It comes in 5 available colors: Storm Grey, Sunset Orange, Horizon Gold, Brilliant Rose and Neptune Blue.

The buttons are on the side: volume, power and Bluetooth. If you hold the Power button, you will be informed on the battery level of the speaker.

The Muo is not waterproof, so its outdoor use is somehow limited.

What makes this Bluetooth speaker so expensive and high-end is simply its superior sound quality. It doesn’t have a speakerphone and other fancy features, it merely focuses on sound and it does an astonishing job in that regard. The Muo really stands out from the crowd and delivers a dynamic sound, with pronounced mid-range and crisp highs. It is also loud enough, but the fidelity of the sound is what really catches your ear.

Most speakers are just loud or have an exaggerated bass, but the sound quality of the Muo places it at a completely different level altogether.

The speaker has NFC connectivity and an aux in.

The battery life is just average, with up to 12 hours on a single charge, although it varies depending on the volume you play. It fully charges in 3 hours.

There is an app that is compatible with both iOS and Android. Among others, from the app you can also adjust the EQ settings.

Quality comes at a price and for the KEF Muo this price is pretty steep, $300 to be more exact.

The KEF Muo is not your every Bluetooth speaker: it’s not waterproof, it doesn’t let you take calls and it is quite expensive. It is more of a whim for the fanatical audiophile who is willing to pay an extra buck just to be able to have a great audio experience. If sound quality is your game, the KEF Muo is definitely a good choice for you.

Pricing

On Amazon, the KEF Muo is priced at $299.99.

The customer support is pretty non-existent with KEF. There’s no phone number displayed on their website and no live chat option available. You do get some how-to-videos and a ‘product support’ section on their website, but overall, we find the customer support very limited.
