PROS:
CONS:
The JBL Clip 2 is a great little speaker to take with you everywhere you go. It is highly portable, small, has a solid, metal made carabiner and it is waterproof. It doesn’t have the loudest sounding speaker out there, but it is more than decent and it costs only a bit above $50.
JBL has always been a popular brand when it comes to speakers and has some of the best-selling Bluetooth speakers on the market, such as JBL Charge 3, JBL Flip 4 and their Clip model.
The Clip 2 Bluetooth speaker is small and affordable, yet still manages to maintain that quality sound that JBL has spoiled as with.
Here are the main specs of the JBL Clip 2:
Design
The Clip 2 speaker comes in several available colors: black, blue, grey, red and teal. The design of the Clip 2 is similar to the original Clip, but only in terms of shape. The Clip 2 is round, covered in a mesh fabric on the front and comes with an integrated carabiner clip. The carabiner is made of metal, it is solid and allows you to hang the speaker in different places or even clip it to your jeans, backpack and so on.
The 3.5mm jack input and the micro USB are protected by a flap. The Clip 2 is a bit heavier than its predecessor. It weighs 6.5 ounces, as supposed to the 5.3 of the Clip.
The volume and phone answering buttons are placed on the left side and the phone button is multifunctional. Depending on how many types and how fast you push on it, you can also play/pause music or skip to the next track.
The power and Bluetooth pairing button are placed on the right side.
The Clip 2 is a small but capable speaker. Aside from its really small sizes and increased portability, it is also rugged and waterproof. It is IPX7 rated, meaning it is now fully waterproof. You can submerge it in water (1 m deep) for max. 30 minutes and it will still work fine. Although there’s no reason for you to do such a thing voluntarily, it is good to know that in case of any water incidents/accidents, your speaker won’t ‘drown’.
In terms of range, the Clip 2 can reach 30 feet with no effort, if there are no obstacles such as walls in the way. In those cases, 20 feet is a more realistic range.
Sound quality and performance
The Clip 2 only packs one full-range driver so you have to know what to expect from it in terms of sound. But even so, this little monster is extremely impressive. It has very articulate mids and mid-lows but not the most powerful bass, as you would anyway expect it from such a tiny device. Tracks with a lot of bass might distort at higher volumes and the bass in general is more on the mids range. The highs are average, but not impressive. Vocal and acoustic songs will sound best on the Clip 2.
The Clips 2 is compatible with both iOS and Android devices. The speakerphone inside it allows you to take phone calls and the quality of the calls is more than satisfying.
The battery is another aspect of the Clip that has improved. It now lasts up to 8 hours on a single charge, although it will drain faster than this if you play music only at max. volume. 8 hours is not such a great stamina for a Bluetooth speaker, but you have to have in mind the size of the Clip2 and of its battery.
The speaker has an auto power off feature and after a period of inactivity it will automatically power off to save battery.
As a conclusion, we consider the Clip 2 a great little speaker for its size and price. It is really affordable, waterproof, solid, the carabiner is a really nice accessory to have and the sound of the speaker is more than decent for such a small device.
On the official JBL website, the Clip 2 has a price of $60.
