SUMMARY:

The Denon Envaya DSB-250BT is the most expensive and premium model of all the Envaya speakers. It also has the best sound, not only compared to other Envaya models, but other Bluetooth speakers in general. It is a simple speaker, there is no NFC, no WiFi and no app, but the overall sound of the Envaya DSB-250BT will make you get past all the shortcomings.

Denon is a renowned electronics company from Japan. They have managed to establish a reputation through their Hi-Fi audio equipment, both professional and for the general consumer. Denon is on the market since 1939. Since 2002, the company merged with Marantz, another reputable brand on the audio market.

Denon commercializes portable audio systems, speakers, home theater systems and more.

The Envaya DSB-250BT Bluetooth speaker is a premium product, with an IP67 dust and waterproof rating.

Main specifications:

  • Dimensions: 2.91 x 8.23 x 2.91 inches
  • Weight: 1.65 lbs.
  • Speakers: 2 x 40mm Full Range Driver
  • 1 x 53 x 135mm Passive Radiator
  • input (3.5mm jack)
  • Micro-USB
  • Battery indicator
  • Run time: 13 hours
  • Charging time: 3.5 hours
  • Voice activation
  • IP67 water/dust proof

The Denon Envaya DSB-250BT is not a very large Bluetooth speaker. It is perfectly portable and it’s not too heavy either. There is nothing out of the ordinary when it comes to its design. It is a good looking speaker, it feels premium and it has a simple design. Fabric on the front, rubberized plastic on the side. Controls are on the left side, where you can find the volume, Bluetooth, call and power buttons.

The speaker comes with a carrying strap, a charging micro-USB cable and the user manual, which is in several languages.

In case you find the speaker to be too big or heavy for your needs, although that shouldn’t be the case, there are two smaller Envaya versions you can go for instead: the Envaya Pocket (50BT) and the Envaya Mini (150BT).

The Denon Envaya DSB-250BT is a completely waterproof speaker, you can immerse it in water of max. 1 meter depth, for up to 30 minutes, so you should have no problem if you’re someone outdoors and you can’t avoid a heavy rain. You can also take the speaker with you to a pool party, although we wouldn’t recommend leaving the speaker in water for too long.

The speaker is quite minimalist when it comes to features. It doesn’t really focus on all the fancy, modern additions other competitors include. There is no WiFi, no NFC and no Alexa voice command. There is no available companion app for it either. The ‘phone’ button does activate Siri or Google Assistant, in case you need them, and there is a hands-free call option thanks to the built-in mic. Also, if you press shortly on the Power button, you’ll see a battery indicator with 5 LEDs on the front, which is otherwise pretty much impossible to spot. And finally, there’s the option to pair 2 Envaya speakers if you want to obtain a stereo effect.

Regarding the controls of the Denon Envaya, they aren’t the easiest to access, which can be pretty annoying. You have to press on them hard in order to work, as they are really stiff and unresponsive. It is one of the few improvements we would really consider important for Denon to implement, maybe with its next model.

The Denon Envaya DSB-250BT is the most expensive Envaya speaker produced by Denon, but it is also the best sounding one. As we’ve already mentioned it, the speaker doesn’t have as many features as other Bluetooth speakers, but it does compensate through its beautiful sound. It delivers a smooth sound, has a very powerful bass and it is quite loud. Trebles are clear and detailed, mids are textured and there’s an overall balanced sound that will make it hard for you to believe it’s coming from this little portable guy and not a regular home speaker. Also, you are not going to lose from the dynamics when you are playing music at low volumes, as it is the case with a lot of lower-quality speakers. With those speakers, as soon as you turn the volume down, everything starts to sound crappy and flat. Denon knows better than that and will deliver the same high-quality regardless of the volume.

The battery life of the Denon Envaya DSB-250BT is above average. Not the best out there, but still impressive. It will last you for approximately 13 hours, give or take, depending on the volume. A full charge will take around 3.5 hours.

All in all, the Denon Envaya DSB-250BT is the most professional Bluetooth speaker in the Envaya line up. While it does lack a few common features some might deem important, this speaker really shines when it comes to sound quality.

Pricing

You can get the Denon Envaya DSB-250BT for approximately $200.
