SUMMARY:

The Muvo 2c from Creative is a complex little Bluetooth speaker. You can use it in 4 modes (USB audio, AUX in, Bluetooth and MicroSD card), it has several useful features and sounds really good for its size. It doesn’t have the best battery life out there, but that is by no means a deal breaker, considering how affordable it is.

COMPLETE REVIEW

Since Creative Technology specializes in designing and manufacturing sound and video boards (among others) it is no wonder that they’ve managed to come up with some competitive Bluetooth speakers as well. The company is on the market since 1987, when it began as a simple computer repair shop. Today, although they are based in Singapore, they are a global company with customers all around the Globe.

The Muvo 2c is one of their most budget-friendly Bluetooth speakers. It costs less than $50, it is small, portable and packed with useful features.

Here are the main specs of the Creative Muvo 2c:

  • Dimensions (H x W x D): 2.6 x 3.7 x 1.5 inches
  • Weight: 5.6 oz (speaker), 0.8 oz (USB cable)
  • 1 driver, 1 passive radiator
  • Battery life: 6 hours (built-in Li-ion 650 mAh)
  • Bluetooth: 4.2

The Muvo 2C is covered in soft plastic and has a metal grille in the front. It is available in several colors: black, blue, green, pink, red, orange, teal and purple. It is not a big device, and it is also light, but it has a bulky feel to it.

The ports are protected by a rubber flap and the speaker is IP66 rated, meaning it is splash and dust proof, but not waterproof.

One of its sides has a cut which allows you to hang the speaker, but you have to buy the lanyard yourself, as it is not included in the package.

The controls of the speaker are placed on top. There are 5 buttons: power, Bluetooth pairing, the volume buttons and a multifunctional button. There are also 2 LEDs, one on the right and one on the left. The right light indicates the mode you’re using the speaker in. There are 4 available modes: Bluetooth, AUX in (for wired connection), USB audio (you can connect the speaker to your PC/laptop via the micro USB) or microSD card (you can use cards up to 128GB and can even browse through albums by using the M and volume buttons). The left light shows you the battery level of the speaker.

Performance and sound quality

Connecting the Muvo 2c is an easy task. You simply pair it with your device and that’s it. You can connect it with several devices but not simultaneously, you have to disconnect one first, in order to be able to connect another.

One other interesting feature of the Creative Muvo 2c is that of acting as an MP3 player. You can play music directly from the built-in microSD card. And yet another one is that of connecting it straight to your computer through the USB.

You can also use the Muvo 2c to take calls, with the quality of the calls being average, just like with most Bluetooth speakers.

The Muvo 2c works with the Sound Blaster Connect app, which gives you some control over the play modes and lets you switch between speakers. The battery level is also displayed on your smartphone. However, the app is not that reliable and you will encounter errors from time to time.

When it comes to sound quality, the Muvo 2c can get loud enough without distorting and has present mids and mid-bass. Vocal music will also sound great on it and highs sound good, too. Don’t expect to get too much bass out of the Muvo 2c though, but considering its size, we think the speaker does a good job overall. As long as you don’t push it right to its volume limits, it can deliver a real good and clear sound.

The battery life of the Creative Muvo 2c claims to last for 6 hours on a single charge, but if you go past a medium volume, don’t expect to squeeze more than 3-4 hours out of it.

The Creative Muvo 2c is a very versatile speaker and it is packed with features. Considering its price of only $40, we think this speaker is a great value for the money.

Pricing

You can buy the Creative Muvo 2c for $40. In the box you also get a quick start guide, a micro USB charging cable and the instruction manual.
