COMPLETE REVIEW

The Fugoo Style S Bluetooth speaker was released in 2017 and it followed the Style model. While they look pretty similar design-wise, the S model is more tailored for outdoor use.

Here are its main specs:

  • Weight: 1.7 pounds
  • Dimensions: 15 x 2 x10 inches
  • Batteries: 2 AAA batteries
  • Dual full-range 47mm drivers
  • Dual bass radiators: 68mm x 115mm
  • Frequency rate response: 90 Hz – 20 KHz
  • Loudness: up to 93dB
  • Power: 20 watts
  • Range: up to 100 feet
  • Bluetooth 4.2
  • Micro-USB for charging

As we’ve already mentioned it, the Style S is quite similar to the Style Bluetooth speaker. It has plastic on the bottom and the left and right side and it is covered in a mesh fabric. The aux jack and micro USB port are protected from dust, water, etc. by a rubber flap. Unlike the Style model, the Style S doesn’t come in several colors.

The controls are pretty much where you know them from the Style model. On top you have the volume controls and the O button, which is multifunctional: it can play a song, pause the track or enable voice assistant such as Google or Siri. In combination with the volume buttons you can also access other functions, such as go to the next track if you press the + option and the O.

The left side houses the ports which are protected by the abovementioned rubber and on the right side you have the power and Bluetooth pairing controls and a LED that indicates the power status.

The Style S speaker is IP67 rated, which is one of the reasons why this is such a great option for outdoor use. The IP67 rating means you can submerge the speaker in water down to max. 3 feet, for maximum half an hour and it will not affect the way it functions. The Style S is also resistant to mud, dust, sand and so on, so you’re pretty much covered no matter where you take the speaker with you. It is also solid and can take a fall.

Another design addition that makes the Style S so outdoorsy is the mounting system that allows you to install the speaker on various things such as your bike, a tree and so on. The plates necessary for mounting the Style S are not included in the box when you purchase the speaker, you have to buy them separately. However, they aren’t that expensive, the priciest one is around $20.

Performance

The Fugoo Style speaker was indeed a successful model. It was good looking, it had a great battery life (up to 40 hours) and it had a fantastic sound quality.

The Style S speaker is quite different in that it doesn’t have the same 360 degree sound anymore, because of its dual directional drivers.

On the other hand, the sound quality of the Style S has improved noticeably in our opinion. The sound is more balanced and detailed, all frequencies are present and articulate. What could use more power and presence is the bass, but it is nothing that serious.

The Style S can get really loud without distorting at higher volumes. It shines best when listening to vocal music and music with emphasized highs, because it can really deliver a bright, crisp sound.

The speaker allows you to take calls and sync 2 Style S speakers to the same device.

The battery life of the Style S speaker is not its biggest strength, compared to the older Style model. While the Style speaker can last up to 40 hours, you can only get 15 hours out of the Style S. You can check the battery level by pressing the power button while the Style S is on. You will get a voice notification that informs you whether your speaker is full, half full, a quarter full and so on.

The Style S speaker is definitely a solid choice if you are an outdoorsy audiophile. It is a solid speaker, it is waterproof, sounds great and has an attractive design.

Pricing

You can get the Style S for $120. In the box you also get the universal AC adaptor, an USB cable and a startup guide. The speaker comes with a 30-day money back guarantee and a 1-year warranty.
