SUMMARY:

Weebly is one of the most highly rated website builders on the market, along with Wix and Squarespace. It has one of the most intuitive and easy to use interfaces, a free version and lots of powerful features. While it does have some shortages in terms of template customization options and the lack of an ‘Undo’ option for the main editor, we still think is one of the best choices you can make when it comes to website builders.

COMPLETE REVIEW

The Weebly platform was launched in 2007 and it is a web-hosting service that also features a website builder. The company that owns it is based in San Francisco.

Weebly has a WYSIWYG interface that is used by more than 40 million entrepreneurs worldwide. It is one of the most popular website builders out there, along with Wix and Squarespace. The company also claims it is the highest rated website building mobile app in Google Play and App Store.

Weebly offers both free and premium plans to choose from.

Weebly offers 4 pricing options: a free plan, Starter, Pro and a Business plan.

The free plan is obviously free of charge and it is only suited for basic use. It includes a drag and drop builder, a weebly.com subdomain andup to 500 MB storage. This version also includes lots of Weebly ads, which can get pretty annoying, but hey, it’s a free plan. Another plus for Weebly is that includes chat and email support with the free plan, which is not something you find in all competitors.

Starter also includes a free domain ($20 value) and Google Ads ($100 credit). You get rid of the ads, you also have unlimited storage and can connect your domain.

The PRO plan is designed for groups and organizations and includes all the benefits from the Starter, plus site search, password protection, video backgrounds, HD video & audio and up to 100 members. You are also entitled at phone support.

Business is Weebly’s highest tier and adds a few more features: unlimited members and membership registration.

E-commerce

In terms of eCommerce features, the paid plans charge a 3% transaction fee, except for the Business plan, which doesn’t charge you anything.

The Starter plan allows up to 10 products, the PRO plan allows up to 25 and the Business plan allows unlimited number of products. The Business plan also includes digital goods, inventory management, a shipping and tax calculator, coupons and SSL security.

All plans include SEO features.

Weebly’s interface is amazingly well designed. Although every service provider boasts on having a “straightforward”, “user-friendly” or “intuitive” interface, more often than not, this proves to be just a marketing strategy to get customers. However, Weebly really puts its money where its mouth is and can really deliver.

The Weebly interface is as user-friendly as it gets, without sacrificing any powerful features.

The drag-and-drop editor works like a charm, allowing you to easily add and edit elements like text, images, slideshows, contact forms, audio and video players and so on. You also get access to a CSS module, if you are skilled enough to use it.

All the templates are mobile responsive and there are also more than 40 professional page layouts to choose from. The templates are grouped into 7 categories: featured, online store, business, personal, event, portfolio and blog.

However, we found the design of the themes to be average. They are also not extremely customizable. All you can edit are the fonts, size, color or you can go with another template.

But our biggest disappointed with Weebly was the fact that it doesn’t have an Undo option for changes like choosing a different theme, adding certain elements and so on. The only Undo and Redo functions are available for the text.

The mobile editor is very useful and it allows you to edit your website and automatically transfers the changes to the desktop version and vice-versa.

There is also a Weebly App Center you can use to install apps that add more functionality to your site. There are more than 200 apps from third-party providers from various categories: social, marketing, ecommerce, communication and others.

Another feature we really liked was the video streaming feature. Weebly lets you stream HD videos directly from YouTube or from its custom video player.

The new image editor from Weebly is also visibly improved. It allows you to apply almost 30 filters, to adjust the contrast, color saturation and brightness and there is also an Undo option, unlike with the main editor.

Pricing

Weebly has 4 plans: Free, Starter, Pro and Business.

Starter costs $8/month (paid annually), Pro - $12/month, Business - $25/month

When it comes to customer support, Weebly offers different options for its customers. While users who sign up for the Free and Starter plan only have access to chat, email support and the community forum, customers from the Pro and Business plans benefit from phone support, too.

Weebly has an extensive Help Center with lots of instructional materials on various topics: getting started, ecommerce, building your website, email marketing, videos and webinars and more. You just type in a word or question into the search bar and see what you can find.
