SUMMARY:

GoDaddy is a powerful player especially when it comes to web hosting and domain registrars. Their website builder is not their biggest strength, but does bring enough to the table to make it a valid choice. It has a very easy to use editor that offers more freedom of design than many competitors, hundreds of available templates and some useful functions that will simplify the entire building process. GoDaddy claims you can build your site in under an hour.

COMPLETE REVIEW

GoDaddy is a well-established company, with an experience of 20 years in this industry. They are renowned primarily for their web hosting and domain registrar services (it is the largest domain registrar in the world). In addition to those, their website builder is also very popular among users who want to be able to create a website without too much hassle. GoDaddy even claim on their website that they will help you “build a better website in under an hour”.

GoDaddy currently has over 13 million customers and they administrate more than 60 million domain names.

All 4 plans from GoDaddy (Personal, Business, Business Pro, Online Store) come with a free 30 days trial with no credit card requirements, a responsive mobile design and 24/7 customer support.

You also get free SSL even with their Business tier, PayPal integration and SEO tools.

Business Plus adds a few more important features to the list: email marketing, social media integration and globally-optimized speed.

Their highest tier has all the tools you might need: all the benefits from the lower plans plus orders and inventory management, discounts and coupons, shipping and tax rates configuration, abandoned cart recovery and tax notifications when orders are placed.

When it comes to ease of use, we have no complaints regarding GoDaddy’s editor. In addition to the fact that everything is straightforward and intuitive, GoDaddy also offers more freedom in editing. You can place your elements anywhere you like, not just in certain places, like with other website builders. There are also plenty of guides for basically almost any move you make, so you won’t be alone.

In terms of useful tools, you have an Undo button, a Redo one and you are allowed to save copies of your site for later use. And, of course, there is a preview function, which lets you see how your website will look, and it works for both the desktop and mobile version of the site.

GoDaddy offers around 50 templates for customers signed up with their cheapest plan (Personal), while the rest of the plans come packed with more than 300 available templates. We found them to be mediocre looking compared to competitors such as Squarespace, but we didn’t encounter any functionality issues. We also liked the fact that the templates are pre-populated with content, which makes everything easier for you, because you don’t have to spend so much time on the design and you can just replace their content with yours.

The templates are categorized based on industry/type of service: business, finance, law, health, beauty, music, entertainment, restaurant, food, sports, recreation and others.

The bad news is that once you choose a template, you’re pretty much stuck with it. If you change your mind and want to switch it with another one, you can’t transfer your content, so you have to start the entire process all over again.

Back to positive things, we though the image editor was pretty complex in terms of tools. It reminded us of Photoshop, which is not a bad thing. GoDaddy also offers plenty of images that are free to use, so that’s another plus.

If you sign up for their most expensive plans, you also get social media integration.

As far as mobile editing goes, GoDaddy doesn’t offer too many options. While your website is automatically converted to be mobile-friendly, you don’t have too much freedom in editing the mobile version, on the contrary, we consider GoDaddy to be below average in this aspect.

There aren’t too many third-party apps included either, but you will find all the major ones. It integrates with PayPal, YouTube, Google Analytics and Google Maps, Yelp.

In terms of customer support, GoDaddy stands up to its reputation. They can be reached 24/7 via phone, e-mail or live chat and they are accessible to all their customers, regardless of the plans they signed up for. The waiting time is short, so that’s a thumbs up for them.

Their website is also full of resources, informational materials and so on, so you can also rely on the knowledge base.
