There aren’t really many things we can hold against Xilisoft DVD Copy. Aside from it missing a few additional features and the absence of live chat support, this DVD copier is a solid and reliable DVD copy software. It’s great for novice users since you can get anywhere in a few clicks, while it also allows for some more advanced functions if you have the know-how.
Xilisoft DVD Copy ranked highly in our review thanks to its great design and excellent features. It’s easy to use and can create good quality copies in an industry average time. Although it doesn’t come with as many features as some other DVD copiers we reviewed, it has all the essentials.
Features
Xilisoft DVD Copy has three main copying modules: Full, Main Movie and Custom. Since the names are quite descriptive, all three modules perform exactly what their name says. The Full mode copies the entire movie with all additional content, Main Movie only copies the film while the Custom allows you to individually chose the content you wish to be duplicated onto your blank DVD. Although these functions seem elementary, it’s good to have them separate since they allow less tech-savvy room for confusion.
By lacking some features most other DVD copiers in our review have, Xilisoft DVD Copy isn’t such a great value for money product. The software lacks the options to merge several DVDs onto one disc. This is a very useful feature if you own many trilogies or TV shows with multiple seasons and you’d like to combine them all onto one larger sized disc. Comparingly, there’s also an apparent lack of a splitting option that would automatically split a commercial DVD into two DVDs, one with the film and the other with the additional content like the commentary, trailers etc. With Xilisoft you also won’t be able to transform your movie files into different format video files you can later play on your smartphone or tablet. Although these options aren’t crucial for a DVD copier, having them bundled with the basic functions would make Xilisoft much more alluring for users.

Xilisoft is one of the easiest DVD copy software to use. The designers made sure to simplify the main interface window so you can easily access any feature you need. For example, once you’ve inserted a DVD you need a single click to start the copying process. This software is great for novice users, but it also has a few more advanced functions for those more tech savvy.
If you’ve already made an unsuccessful attempt at copying your favorite movie, it might be because most commercial DVDs carry some kind of encryption protecting them from piracy. And while we do not encourage it, all DVD copiers we reviewed have some form of decryption software that overcomes this obstacle allowing you to multiply your original DVDs.
Xilisoft performed average by copying a DVD in just under 40 minutes. What’s interesting is that it took the same amount of time to make a duplicate, compressed or individually customized copy. Most DVD copiers we reviewed were faster or slower, depending on the action they were performing.
To make an identical copy of your favorite DVD, you’re going to have to get a larger capacity double-layered DVD - 9 disc. These discs have considerably more space than regular DVDs and can fully receive the data transferred from its original source, without any loss of quality. Opting for a regular disc-to-disc copy using a DVD-5 blank disc, calls for a certain level of compression which usually results in the drop of image quality. Xilisoft DVD Copy recorded a barely recognizable difference, causing minimal pixilation on the finer details in the video, making it one of the highest-quality copiers on the market.
It’s not uncommon for a DVD copier to have additional features that allow you different ways of preserving your favorite media. Xilisoft DVD Copy allows you to save the ISO, or the image file of the DVD you chose. The ISO file is the exact virtual copy, or more of blueprint, of the DVD you wish to copy. By saving it on your PC you can create your own virtual database of all your movies. Later, if the original discs get misplaced or damaged, you can simply mount the image into a virtual drive and burn it onto a blank disc.
Despite Xilisoft’s simplicity, you might encounter some issues while you’re getting to know your new software. If you run into an obstacle, the Xilisoft website offers a FAQ section and many how-to instruction manuals so you can overcome your problem with ease.
