We decided to include 1Step DVD Copy in our top ten DVD copy software line up because it has good customizing options and it has all the elementary features we look for in this type of software. Despite it missing some more advanced tools, we still think 1Step DVD Copy is a good DVD copier worth your attention.

Features

1Step DVD Copy has a fairly simple interface that is easy enough to use for even the most novice users. Once you insert a DVD into your computer, the program starts the copying process within a single click. You are presented with an option of creating an identical copy of your desired DVD, or you can choose to fit it onto a smaller DVD. Depending on the option you choose, the process can take anywhere between 30 to 45 minutes.  

If you decide to make an exact replica of your original DVD, it’s best to pay a little more and buy a blank double layered disc, or a DVD-9. Copying your files onto a larger capacity disk insures that the original image quality will be preserved during transfer. If you opt for a cheaper, regular DVD-5, the files from your commercial DVD need to be compressed before they are ready to be transferred onto your blank disc. Although you save a few bucks by fitting the movie onto a cheaper, smaller-sized DVD, the compression causes serious damage to the quality of the video you’re copying. When we tested the program, we noticed the video on the compressed disc was at times pixelated and blurry, even more so when played on a larger HDTV.

To make sure this doesn’t happen while you’re moving files onto your smaller capacity DVD, you should use 1Step’s customization tool that allows you to individually pick which files you want the software to copy. Since most commercial DVDs come with a lot of extra content, stripping everything but the movie can make a big difference in quality when transferring your files onto a DVD-5 disc.

1Step DVD Copy also features a not so common tool that allows you to convert the video file on your DVD into a file that can be later played back on your phone or tablet. If you’re on the road a lot, it might be convenient to have a part of your DVD library always with you. The software also has a built-in decryption software that bypasses the security measures most commercial DVDs have against piracy.

Although 1Step DVD Copy has all the elementary features we look in a DVD copier, it’s missing some more advanced ones that would make it a more well-rounded product. If this isn’t your first time using a program like this, you might notice that you can’t save a DVD’s ISO file, therefor you’re not able to make a virtual library on your PC. ISO files are especially useful since you can use them to create an exact duplicate of your favorite DVDs long after their physical copies are gone.
