Leawo DVD Copy is an app that is actually a part of a software suite. Since it’s not an individual software but rather a smaller program in a big package, the Leawo DVD copy offers limited copying tools and only a few ways you can customize the content that goes onto your blank discs. Like some other DVD copiers we reviewed, this app also lacks the ability to compress commercial DVDs to fit onto smaller space discs.  

Features

This app has three main copying modes: Full Movie, Main Movie and Custom. All module names are very descriptive since they do exactly what their names say. Depending on the mode you choose, it takes Leawo DVD Copy less than a full hour to make an identical duplicate of your DVD. It might seem like a lot, but it’s actually just above the industry average margin.

The Full Movie allows you to make an exact duplicate of the DVD you’d like to copy, but you’re going to need a pricier, blank double layered DVD to do so. Since Leawo DVD Copy doesn’t compress your files, you don’t have another option for having a complete copy of your original DVD.

The Main Movie mode takes away everything it registers redundant and only copies the film itself. Although it doesn’t copy the extra content, the original video file you copy will be identical to the one on the source disc. If the video is smaller than 5GB you’ll be able to transfer it to a regular DVD, if not, you’ll have to get a larger capacity DVD-9.

To fully customize what goes onto your new disc, you’ll need to utilize the Custom module. For example, if the movie you’re trying to copy is smaller than 5GB and can fit on a regular DVD-5 disc, you might want to include some extra content like the video commentary or trailers. If you want all the content on two regular discs, the Custom mode lets you manually split the files from the original DVD and reorder them onto two DVD-5’s at your preference. However, most top tier software we reviewed, do this automatically.

Leawo DVD Copy also includes the ability to save a DVD’s ISO file on your PC. Since an ISO is practically a blueprint of the original DVD, you’re essentially making a backup of your favorite media on your hard drive. All these image files you save can later be mounted into a virtual drive on your PC, and replayed at any time. However, since most people save these ISO’s as a backup in case something happens to their original DVDs, Leawo DVD Copy doesn’t offer the option of burning these image files onto a new, blanc disk. Although this isn’t insurmountable, it would still be nice if you had the option within the app, rather than having to install third-party software to do it. One of the more common features missing is the file converter that adapts your DVD into a standalone video file you can play on any of your devices.
