COMPLETE REVIEW

As the name clearly suggests it, Safety 1st specializes in home safety products and child safety items in particular. The company has been on the market for approximately 30 years and it is based in the US. In addition to baby monitors, it also manufactures appliance locks, infant car seats, grooming products for babies and more.

The Safety 1st HD WiFi baby monitor with audio and movement detection is a high-end product that delivers high quality video and audio and has several useful features.

  • Dimensions for the camera (diameter X depth): 2.5 x 2.2 inches

Design

The Safety 1st baby monitor consists of two items: an audio unit, shaped like a hockey puck and the camera unit.

They are both white and have a modern design. The camera sits on a base that can be placed upright or you can mount it on a wall with the provided anchors and screws. The camera features 2 buttons, one on the front for pairing and one in the back to reset it. There is also an USB port in the back. You’ve got to keep the camera plugged in into an outlet.

The audio unit looks like a puck, it is wireless and uses a rechargeable battery. It has the same buttons and the USB port. In addition to those, it also has a 1.5W speaker, a built in microphone and a LED light that gives a blue light whenever the system detects movement or sound.

When you order the product, you can choose to only buy the camera unit or opt for the audio unit, too.

How to use the baby monitor

The Safety 1st baby monitor has WiFi (works on 2.4 GHz) and works with an app that is compatible with both Android and iOS devices.

In order to set up the system you have to download the app, create an account and add the camera. Then you pair the camera with the device and that’s it. The audio unit pairs automatically with the camera once it is turned on.

From the app you can adjust the audio and motion sensitivity, you can download the baby recordings you want from your cloud account, you can adjust the video quality, the speaker volume, you can share the access to the camera and add new members.

The system keeps the video recordings in your cloud account for free, but only for 24 hours, so if you know you don’t want to lose a certain clip, make sure you download it within this timeframe.

The audio unit also allows you to adjust the sensitivity and you can choose where to receive more alerts, on your smartphone or directly from the audio unit.

The way the audio unit works is that when the camera detects a noise or motion, the audio unit picks that up and alerts you, both through sound and visually, through the LED light which starts to glow.

The video quality of the camera is really good, with a HD resolution and you’ve also got night vision which works up to 15 feet.

The sound quality is also impressive. Everything is clear and loud enough, even when you use the two-way mic.

The audio unit uses a rechargeable battery and it can last up to 12 hours on a single charge, which is not that impressive.

The Safety 1st baby monitor doesn’t have any lullabies, no sensors for humidity and temperature.

However, the quality of both the audio and video is outstanding, the audio unit is a really useful addition and the app is easy to use.

Pricing

The Safety 1st baby monitor can be purchased for $150 (the audio unit and one camera). You can also buy just the camera, for approximately $113.
