COMPLETE REVIEW

Securifi is a well-known name in the router industry. It produces modern, intuitive solutions for everyday devices and it gives its users a fresh perspective on what they should expect from a “simple” WiFi booster. With its futuristic design and features, the company strives to become the go-to solution for smart homes. Securifi’s Almond WiFi extender is no exception to that rule. This sleek looking, multifunctional device can serve as a signal booster, router, wireless bridge and more. Although it doesn’t provide a huge range like some other products in our review, it makes up for that with its easy setup and design. Having limited range makes Almond the perfect solution for modern mid-sized homes.

Design

One of the most important aspects of this product is definitely its design. Aside from it being modern and alluring, the Almond is highly multi-functional. What sets it apart from most other WiFi extenders on the market is the 2.8-inch fully functional touchscreen. And while it may seem like a redundant thing to put on a WiFi booster, Almond’s screen has basically redefined how these types of devices should look. Through this unusual innovation you can control and modify the device or check the weather, use it as a digital clock and more. What Securifi prides itself with the most is the “3-minute touchscreen setup”. This means that you don’t need any special skills, or access to a Mac/PC to setup your new router. Everything you will need to setup and maintain the device can be easily accessed through the touchscreen. Since Almond is the first “touch wireless router in history”, it has redefined the role a router has in a home. These types of devices are usually placed somewhere out of sight since they, more often than not, feature fairly simple, repetitive designs. With its multipurpose device, Securifi puts the router in front of you where you can use it to check the weather, look at the time or maybe make some last minute tweaks to your WiFi.

Securifi’s Almond comes with two Ethernet ports you can use to connect devices like Smart TVs, consoles and more. The company also invests a lot in their security protocol so it’s only natural that its WiFi extender also comes with an enviable level of protection. The Almond is protected by WEP and WPA/WPA2 protocols.

Pricing

At the time of writing this review, Almond went for $79.99 on Amazon and $73.99 at Walmart. There are, of course, other big names that sell the product, but Amazon is directly linked to Securifi’s site. When it comes to the warranty, Securifi covers its WiFi booster with a limited one-year warranty and unlimited technical support. If you wish to extend this period, you can purchase a 3-year protection plan on Amazon for another $4.00.

Performance

Although Securifi’s Almond is pretty to look at, it doesn’t do much when it comes to its basic function – extending the WiFi signal. While it did have decent results in the range test, it fell very far behind to our first choice in this category. The tested range at which Almond still worked in a satisfactory way is 100 feet, and while you will still be able to register its signal when you move away further, it will be too weak for any kind of transfer. With that being said, 100 feet is more than ok for a mid-sized home. This means that if you combine it with your regular router, you won’t find many places in your house that will leave you without a signal. Almond has another drawback – it’s designed to work on the 2.4Ghz band. What this means for the less tech savvy is that if you’re using the device as a WiFi extender, it will significantly lower your data throughput or the speed at which you transfer files online. Comparingly to the other top choices in our review, the Almond doesn’t allow you to send and receive data at the same time, you can only do one. Essentially, this means that, if you’re using it as a WiFi extender, the device will transfer data at half the speed.
