The Linksys RE4000 is among the more affordable range extenders on the market. While it’s not the most stylish solution, this device will successfully cover any blind spots your original router left in your home. For just under $80 this range extender is a solid solution for anyone looking to boost the WiFi signal in their small home.
The Linksys RE4000 is another basic range extender with best performances in smaller homes. Like some other similar devices we reviewed, the RE4000 develops a throughput rate of 300Mbps, more than enough for everyday use. It also has decent coverage rates that should cover the entire area of your small apartment. Unlike the other two similar range extenders in our review, the Linksys RE4000 is on the pricier side, considering what it comes with.
Design
Although the RE4000 is much smaller than some of its competition, it’s somewhat bulkier in size. This means that when you plug it directly into a wall outlet, it will probably take up more than one plug. Hence, it’s better if you place it on something. The Linksys RE4000 comes with two Ethernet ports you can use to swiftly connect your devices like Smart TVs, game consoles, printers and others. The device features a clean, rectangle design so it can easily blend in with any environment. On the front, it has a LED indicator that lights up once your device is connected to the network.
You can buy the Linksys RE4000 directly from the website for $79.99, or on Amazon for $88.17 with a manufacturer’s one-year limited hardware warranty. You can prolong this period at an extra charge with Amazon’s different protection plans.
While the Linksys RE4000 is said to provide speeds up to 300Mbps, we recorded them only in the very close proximity to the device. It’s a common thing for range extenders to lose on data throughput rates as you move away from them. The extender usually halves your initial router speed. This is the case with the RE4000 as well. Nevertheless, the device works on both the 2.4GHz and %GHz bands giving it a much farther reach than most similar extenders we looked at.
The Linksys RE4000 also features a very simple installation procedure. There are three steps to the entire process that shouldn’t take more than a couple of minutes. Once you plug in the device, it will automatically connect to its base unit and start the setup process. Having a device that comes with a simple setup can be very convenient.
