COMPLETE REVIEW

The Ally Plus comes from a company well-known for their quality in making reliable network related products. Amped’s Ally Plus mesh router is no exception to that rule. It covers an impressive 15,000 square feet with enviable stability and signal reach. It’s also accompanied by an exceptionally developed mobile app you can use to control any of the device’s many features. And while it is pricy, for a larger home, Amped Ally Plus is one of the best solutions for signal boosting.

Design

Amped Ally Plus is a very well-designed product. Its sleek, flat and rounded shape make it easy for the device to blend perfectly with any decorum. Ally Plus features three Gigabit ports on the router, and one on the extender itself. Since it's so conveniently designed, the device can be put in any corner of your home without compromising your interior design.

Pricing

The entire Amped Ally Plus system containing the Ally Router and the Ally Extender goes for $299.99 on the official website. At the time of writing this review, the site was running a promotion by giving away high-power USB adapters for purchases over $100. Amazon, Office Depot and Best Buy all carry the device but their prices vary by store.

Performance

To make sure Amped Ally Plus is a product worthy of our review, we looked at the results the device recorded on tests that measured the throughput rate, the range the device extends to and the ease of setup. Another test recorded the throughput rate above and below the router itself, making sure the device distributes the signal equally. And while the 3D test doesn’t look as important as the other test, it’s very important since it makes sure your WiFi signal is spread across your entire home in case you have a multistory house.

Amped Ally Plus recorded an incredible 637Mbps at close range, making it the fastest mesh router in our review. Unfortunately, as you move further away from the device the signal significantly weakens and the throughput rate goes through the floor. Nevertheless, this type of drop is common for range extenders. One impressive result the Amped Ally Plus recorded was on the penetration test. The device successfully maintained a strong and stable signal through various different kinds of building materials.

And while the setup test isn’t the most important one to look at when choosing a new WiFi extender, it’s also good to make sure you’re buying a product that is easy to install. Amped Ally Plus is among the devices with the easiest setup. It’s important to note that once you setup your main unit, it automatically connects to the other units across your home. Most devices we reviewed require you to manually install each individual device in the system, which can be time consuming.

Amped Ally Plus also comes with a pairing app and web interface you can use to control the system and make changes to it. The mobile app is one of the best of its kind. It comes with impressive control options and it allows you to keep track of the internet traffic in your home, wherever you are. For example, Amped Ally Plus’s app allows you to fully control the websites your kids visit, as well as monitor or even restrict them from the ones you deem inappropriate. Another feature your children are guaranteed to dislike is the ability to pause online gaming at any moment on consoles like PlayStation and Xbox.
