SUMMARY:

Eero has a sleek, modern design that makes it easy to blend in with any type of surface or background. It’s compact and it is easily accessible through the mobile app. Despite its poor performance results, Eero is still a good choice for users who want a beautifully designed WiFi extender that doesn’t go that extra mile, but gets the job done.

COMPLETE REVIEW

Eero’s slogan is very accurate when it says - “Never think about WiFi again”. This stylish mesh router comes from a manufacturer that’s well-known for reliability and futuristic designs. Thanks to its “good looks” the Eero blends in perfectly with any décor, it’s easy to use and control and it comes accompanied by an equally impressive mobile app. With its good performance results and accessible design, Eero is one of the best routers on the market.

Design

When it comes to design, Eero is definitely one of the “best looking” WiFi extenders on the market. It has a minimalistic white design and it comes in dimensions just a bit bigger (though significantly thicker) than a regular CD case. Its simple design allows it to blend in with any type of interior. Unfortunately, this WiFi extender doesn’t have a touchscreen for easy access - you operate it through the mobile app.

Eero has one LED that changes three colors depending on the state it’s in. Once you start it up and the device is ready to be configured, the LED will indicate blue, it will turn white once the device is online and red, like with many other devices, when there’s something very wrong with the device. Eero comes with four antennas for boosting the signal and it operates on 2.4 and 5Ghz bands at the same time.

Pricing

Eero is one of the most expensive devices in our review. With that being said, it comes with a 30-day satisfaction guarantee and a one-year limited warranty that covers most technical issues your device can encounter. An individual Eero that covers a home with one to two bedrooms goes for $199 on the company’s website, while there are other models/systems available at different prices. The most expensive home WiFi System goes for $399 and it covers a much larger area.

Performance

As with the other devices we included in our review, we looked at test results Eero recorded in order to make our final decision about the product. The router was tested for throughput speed and different building material penetration. The additional 3D test was meant to determine how well the device transmits the signal above and below itself.

While Eero showed satisfactory results in the throughput test, it fell far behind our top contenders. For example, when it was tested for the distance of 5 ft., the device performed admirably showing one of the highest results in our review 575Mbps, but as the tests moved further away, Eero had a very steep decline in throughput speed. Reaching a 60 percent decline on the maximum distance measured, the device recorded only 229Mbps. Its results on the 3D test weren’t amazing either, however, it proved to be a stable provider even through the toughest surfaces.

Unfortunately, another drawback to this device is its frequent disconnections. This isn’t a small matter, since each disconnection means you’ll have to start the setup process from the beginning. Since not many everyday users have the tech skills needed to solve these types of issues, this problem can be quite annoying. Considering that the Eero is on the costlier side when it comes to mesh routers, you should do research before deciding to buy. The company also grants you a 30-day guarantee that you will get your money back in case you’re not satisfied with the device during this period.

On the other hand, Eero’s mobile app is one of its strongest suits. It’s very user friendly and its intuitive design allows anyone in your family to fully master it in a very short time. The app allows you to fully operate the router as well as grant guest access, change passwords, check the connection status of all the devices currently on the network, limit access and much more. An interesting feature is that you can, for example, set specific times your kids are allowed on the network therefore limiting their time online. Eero also features a very useful auto-update feature that regularly checks for updates. What this means for you is that you won’t have to reset your router when you’re having connection issues, but just leave the device to do it itself.
