COMPLETE REVIEW

The TicWatch Pro is a mid-range smartwatch produced by Mobvoi, a Chinese company founded in 2012. The company has gain recognition for its renowned voice search app, Chumenwenwen. Nowadays, Mobvoi produces some really popular wearables, such as the TicWatch Pro smartwatch, the TicWatch E and more. The company also makes Bluetooth speakers.

The TicWatch smartwatches are relatively new and the TicWatch Pro is their most premium model and one of their best-selling one. It has a fantastic battery life and a dual-screen: it has both an always-on LCD display and an OLED display.

Here are the main specs of the TicWatch Pro:

  • Dimensions: 45 x 14.6mm
  • Weight: 2.75oz
  • 512 RAM
  • Internal storage: 4GB
  • Chipset: Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100
  • 39” AMOLED 400 x 400 + FSTN display
  • Battery: 415mAH, battery life: mixed usage – 5-30 days; Smart mode: 2 days; Essential mode: 30 days
  • IP68 rated (water and dust resistance)
  • Operating system: Wear OS
  • GPS
  • Bluetooth, WiFi, NFC
  • Accelerometer, Gyro, Magnetic Sensor, PPG Heart Rate sensor, Ambient Light sensor, Low latency off-body sensor

Design

The TicWatch Pro is a premium looking smartwatch. It is the most expensive watch manufactured by Mobvoi, although still more affordable than the Apple Watch for instance. It is solid, the casing is made of plastic and the bezel and back are stainless steel. It is fully circular and has 2 buttons on the right side of the watch. The strap is made of both silicone (inside) and leather (outside). You can easily replace the strap with any 24mm watch band you like, although this one is pretty cool and comfortable.

Color-wise, the watch is available in black or silver.

And now for the most interesting part of the design. The TicWatch Pro features a dual display, meaning it has a secondary LCD screen on top of the OLED display of the watch. The LCD screen is always-on and low-powered and it displays all the important info: time, date, battery life, steps and so on, and it works when the OLED display is off. Thanks to this ingenious layered display, you can preserve battery life and still look at all the important data displayed on the watch. When you just need to see the time for instance, the LCD screen will do just fine. If, however, you need to access the smart features of the watch, you turn on the OLED display. The TicWatch Pro can last even 30 days on a single charge, depending how you use it. This dual-screen technology is also useful when it comes to visibility, as you are covered in any light conditions. In dark environments, the OLED display is excellent, while in bright light, the LCD display is extremely easy to read.

The touchscreen of  the watch is responsive, there is no latency.

The watch is average in terms of weight and it is a bit on the thick side, but it is comfortable to wear and doesn’t feel heavy on the wrist.

The TicWatch Pro is compatible with both iOS and Android devices.

Features

The TicWatch Pro is IP68 rated, meaning it is dust proof and water resistant. However, while it can be submerged in water up to 1.5m for max. 30 minutes, it isn’t recommended to be worn in the pool or when swimming.

The watch comes with WearOS on it, but you also need the Mobvoi app on your phone in order to use the watch, although it is quite a limited app. All it really does is record your workout data in its Fitness section.

The fact that the TicWatch runs the WearOS means you’ve got access to all the available apps in Google Play, which is good news.

The OS is really easy to grasp and use, but the Mobvoi app could use some improvement.

When it comes to workout/fitness tracking, the TicWatch can also face with pride major competitors. It has a built in GPS, so you don’t need your phone when you go jogging for instance, it has a heart rate monitor and you can use the watch for various activities, from running, cycling to simply walking. What you can’t do is swim with the TicWatch Pro. While it is water resistant, it isn’t fully waterproof.

The GPS works really well and it is accurate, while the heart monitor is average. It does its job, but you get best results when standing still.

There is also a built in microphone, which can be activated by pressing the top button on the right.

The 4GB of internal memory allow you to download apps, upload songs and so on. The TicWatch Pro is not the fastest performing smartwatch out there, mainly because of its quite old chipset (Snapdragon 2100) and the 512 MB of RAM, but it will do its job.

The battery of the TicWatch Pro is indeed impressive, and if battery life is crucial for you in a smartwatch, then the TicWatch Pro is hard to beat. There are 2 modes available to use the watch in: the Essential Mode, in which the smartwatch can last up to 30 days on a single charge and the Smart Mode, with a battery life of 2 days. The only downside to this system is the fact that if you want to switch from one mode to the other, you have to reboot the TicWatch Pro, which lasts well above a minute, so that might be a bit frustrating for some. Nevertheless, a month of use on a single charge?! That’s pretty impressive for a smartwatch.

The TicWatch Pro is an interesting smartwatch. High-end in design and features, but mid-priced. It has pretty much anything you want in a smartwatch, short of LTE capability and the waterproofness, so it is definitely worth considering.

Pricing

The TicWatch Pro can be purchased for $250. The product comes with a 30-day money back guarantee and a 1-year warranty.
