COMPLETE REVIEW

The LG Watch Style is indeed a stylish smartwatch, with a premium and fashionable design. It comes in three available colors: Titanium, Silver and Rose Gold. The watch was launched in the early 2017.

The watch was developed in collaboration with Google and its sophisticated, slim design is one of the most appealing things about it. The watch is also compatible with iOS smartphones.

Here are the main specifications:

  • Dimensions: 1.7 x 11.8 x 0.4 in
  • Weight: 1.62 oz.
  • Display: 1.2 Full Circle P-OLED
  • OS: Android Wear 2.0
  • Chipset: 1.1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100
  • 512 RAM
  • Storage: 4 GB
  • Water resistance: IP67 (not suited for swimming)
  • Battery capacity: 240 mAh
  • WiFi connectivity (802.11 b/g/n)

The first thing you’re going to love about the LG Watch Style is its tasteful, stylish design. It is comfortable and slim, actually one of the thinnest Android Wear smartwatches you can find and one of the lightest. It looks very similar to old, classy analog watches, with a button on the side that enables the screen when you press it. Once lit, you can navigate using the touch screen. The side crown can also rotate for a better navigation, a feature inspired by the Apple Watch.

The Watch Style comes with a leather band but it is compatible with any 18 mm band, in case you want to swap it for a different one.

The OLED display is very bright but you have to adjust the brightness yourself to get the best result. The automatic brightness of the LG Watch Style doesn’t do it justice.

The LG Watch Style is a solid, durable watch and the Gorilla Glass is scratch resistant and can protect the watch in case you accidentally drop it.

The menu is very simple and easy to navigate and you won’t experience any annoying lags. This smartwatch is not the best option for active people though, as it lacks some basic functions found in all fitness trackers/sport watches. There is no HR sensor and no built-in GPS. It is also not suited for swimming or diving, as it is only IP67 certified, meaning you can only use it when you shower or expose it to water for max. 30 minutes, for up to 1.5 m. The Watch Style is more elegant than practical. Another missing feature is the NFC. It doesn’t have a speaker either, so you can’t answer calls with it. The LG Watch Style does have a built-in accelerometer that helps you calculate your pace when you’re working out and you can use Google Fit for activities such as biking, running, walking, etc.

When it comes to software, Google deserves a big thumbs up for optimizing and improving the Android Wear. The interface is simple and very user-friendly. The Play Store access, customizable watch faces and Google Assistant are definitely things to be praised. You can now edit your watch face simply by pressing long on it. You can choose between 0 and 6 ‘complications’ to add various widgets on the watch face: day, month, battery life, weather, etc. Google Assistant can be activated by long-pressing on the side button.

There are some preinstalled apps in the Watch Style, such as Google Translate, Reminders, Mail, a torch mode and more. There is also a Bluetooth radio and an ambient light sensor.

You can reply to messages with emoji, voice to text or text only, although we don’t really recommend the latter, given the tiny keyboard you have to use. Google did add the swipe functionality, but you’ll still have a hard time trying to type in the correct letters.

The battery life of the Watch Style is definitely not one of its biggest strengths. The embedded 240 mAh battery can’t last a full day. You’ll most likely have to charge the watch after 12 hours of use.

If you are looking for an elegant, lightweight, easy to use smartwatch, the LG Watch Style is a winner. But if sports and activities are your priorities, this might not be the best choice.

Pricing

On Amazon the LG Watch Style has a price of $268.
