McAfee showed great results in the latest (Nov/Dec 2016) test performed by the independent IT institute AV-Test. The 21 pre-selected anti-malware software was tested for protection, usability and performance. All tests were performed by experts on standard and high end PCs.
The initial, protection test done in December 2016, gave McAfee a perfect score against almost 14.000 newly discovered threats. The software was tested against 0-day attacks and recently discovered malware. With just two mistakes in identifying legitimate software as malware, McAfee did well above the industry average for usability. Its performance test results were somewhat mixed, oscillating around the industry average mark. The internet security specialists detected the lag mostly while they were downloading and installing frequently used apps. A small increase in the use of the test PCs resources was also logged during the installation process of certain programs. The detected lag was minimal and you shouldn’t be able to pick it up during everyday use. Despite the lower performance result, McAfee still did better than many in its category.
