SUMMARY:

With an abundance of advanced features and an excellent protection result, Avast Pro Antivirus is a great anti-malware solution for your home computer. Before buying the software you can try its free version for as long as you like. Even though the free version lacks some integral features, you can get a clear picture of what you can expect from the Pro package. If you’re not that tech savvy, you can set the software into autopilot and forget about it while it works in the background. Despite its slightly lower performance result, Avast Pro Antivirus is still a good value for money product.

COMPLETE REVIEW

With more than 150 million installs on home and business computers worldwide, Avast is one of the most popular and widespread anti-malware software in the industry. Aside from successfully shielding from basic malware types, Avast Pro Antivirus has improved and updated protection against ransomware, keyloggers, Trojans etc. It comes with advanced features like a safe browser and a password manager, but its license only covers one PC.

Features

Avast Pro Antivirus is an entry level product just inside its website structure. On all other fronts, the Pro Antivirus package covers much more than many other similar products in its category. Even though a password manager is usually a tool reserved for a much pricier security suite package, Avast considers it an essential. The feature allows you to log all your passwords in a safe place where you can easily reach them.

If a scan registers a possible malware threat, it sends the suspicious file to Avast Threat Labs by using CyberCapture that provides real-time, instant protection. In 2017, Avast added the Behavior Shield feature that closely monitors all apps you recently installed in case they suddenly become active threats. These dormant programs can lead to serious problems if they turn out to be ransomware. Luckily for you, Avast anti-malware detects and blocks ransomware before it has time to do any real damage. Another novelty is an autopilot mode where you can hand over the helm to Avast and it will do all the work by itself.

A vulnerability scan, network security feature and a browser cleanup tool are all included. The game mode makes sure you are uninterrupted while watching games, playing videos or running other full screen apps. If you have a habit of downloading files from certain shady web locations, you can test them in the safe environment of a Sandbox before using them on your PC.

To prevent you from getting scammed, Avast has a Secure DNS feature that stops websites from automatically transferring you to a false version of the site you were initially trying to visit. This is one of the most common types of online fraud, and if you’re not suitably protected, it can cost you your confidential data. There are only a few other anti-malware products in our review that offer a safe browser. Avast prides itself with the SafeZone Browser being “the world’s most secure web browser”.

Performance

During our review process we relied on testing result by the independent IT security institute AV-Test. For a few times every year, the lab tests around 20 anti-malware products in order to evaluate their overall value. The software is tested for protection, performance and usability. Avast Pro Antivirus got perfect marks in all areas except performance.

The first part of the evaluation tests the software’s protection capabilities. Avast was set against more than 13,000 newly emerged malware and produced excellent results. The usability test measured how precise the anti-malware software was in differentiating between legitimate files and websites and real threats. With a single mistake, Avast recorded a near perfect score. When it was tested for performance on a high end PC, the software caused serious lag during local/network copying of files while it worked a lot better when tested on a standard computer.  Even with the weaker performance result, Avast Pro Antivirus still has good overall value.
