With great performance results and an improved feature package, Avira Antivirus Pro offers excellent protection for home users. Even though it does cost a few dollars more than some other top tier products we reviewed, its value-for-money is still very high. You can download many free add-ons and features and you can try the antivirus product during the trial period. If you get stuck, Avira’s website is a great treasury of anti-malware knowledge.
Avira is one of the most trusted names when it comes to anti-malware software. For years, it has been delivering reliable internet security products to homes and offices across the world. It protects from all known types of malware, viruses, spyware, ransomware, rootkits, Trojans, worms and keyloggers. The improved Avira Antivirus Pro 2017 version comes with some new features and an enhanced protection layer.

For a limited time, Avira is offering its Antivirus Pro with an extended license for three devices. This is a great deal since most anti-malware software we reviewed only cover one computer per subscription.
Avira has long been known for its free internet security products. Securing your PC with a free anti-malware software is ok if you need basic protection and don’t really use your computer for much other than surfing the web. On the other hand, if you use your PC to make online transactions or visit high-traffic websites, you might want to consider upgrading your anti-malware software to a paid, premium version. Even though Avira’s free antivirus shares many features with Avira Antivirus Pro, the paid version offers a higher level of security with greater opportunities to customize your protection.
With the beginning of 2017, Avira introduced a renewed and improved version of it Antivirus Pro software. Using heuristic technology, the antivirus successfully protects against more than one million ransomware attacks each year. With the Browser Safety feature you can install in your web browser of choice, Avira protects you from phishing attacks and it provides a secure online environment for you to manage your finances. The software has a Smart A.I. integrated into the antivirus scan to provide real time protection against 0-day threats as they surface in real time. If, by any chance, a leak does occur and some of your files are corrupted, the Avira Intelligent Repair System is an easy-to-use feature to repair the damage caused by malware.
The Device control feature scans all USB devices you connect to your PC for any potential threats. Like many other top anti-malware software, Avira also has a gaming mode that allows you to play games and watch videos without interruptions. The feature registers full screen programs and blocks pop-ups from disturbing you. If you have multiple devices under one license you can easily control their protection from the online dashboard.

Several times each year, AV-Test lab evaluates more than 20 anti-malware products to determine their reliability. The software is tested in an independent facility by internet security experts in three areas: protection, usability and performance. On tests run during the winter of 2016, Avira recorded excellent results in all parts of the evaluation.
In the protection test, Avira was tested against more than 13,000 newly discovered malware and against 174 samples of real-time 0-day malware attacks. The anti-malware software got perfect results in both areas preserving its pristine protection score.
To make sure you don’t have to label and whitelist legitimate files and websites often, it’s important to choose an anti-malware software that has a high usability score. With just one false positive, Avira performed well above the industry standard for this area of the test.
The performance test measures the strain the anti-malware software produced on your PCs resources. Even though it did slow down its host PC while the testers were downloading and launching different apps, this result shouldn’t necessarily impair your user experience. In all other areas of the same test Avira Antivirus Pro recorded well above average results, ranking among the best anti-malware software the industry has to offer.
