SUMMARY:

The Nemo Disco 15 is a 3-season, down-filled men sleeping bag, with a temperature rating of 15 degrees F. It has an interesting spoon shape which makes it more spacious than mummy bags and a treat for side sleepers. It’s not the lightest or most affordable sleeping bag out there, but it compensates through the comfort level and its generous number of features.

COMPLETE REVIEW

Nemo Equipment is an American company that manufactures outdoor equipment. The company was founded in 2002 and is based in New Hampshire. Nemo specializes mostly in tents and outdoor sleeping products such as sleeping bags, pads and pillows.

The Nemo Disco 15 is a down men’s sleeping bag with a Spoon shape, designed this way, specifically to add more room at both your knees and elbows. It is a 3-season sleeping bag. Its women counterpart is the Rave sleeping bag.

Here are the main specifications of the Nemo Disco 15:

  • Packed size: 18 x 9 inches
  • Minimum weight: 2 lbs. 12 oz
  • Temperature rating: 15 degrees F
  • Fill type: down, fill weight: 1 lb 7 oz
  • Shell fabric: 30D Nylon Ripstop w/DWR
  • Footbox Fabric: 40D Nylon Ripstop OSMO w/DWR
  • Zipper location: left
  • Shoulder girth: 64 inches
  • Compressed volume: 6.6

The Nemo Disco 15 comes in both regular and long sizes. The regular version fits people up to 6’ and the long version, up to 6’6.

The Nemo Disco 15 is designed especially for people who sleep on the side and for those who suffer from claustrophobia, giving you more room for your knees and elbows and being roomier than mummy shaped bags. You get more room exactly where it’s the most important (your knees, shoulders) while still feeling warm enough in the important areas, at the hips, towards the middle, where the cut narrows.

Its fill and spoon design make it a bit heavy and less packable, so it might not be your number 1 option if you go backpacking a lot. There are also no compression straps on the stuff sack, which means you can’t compress it as much as you’d like, to make it even smaller. But on the other hand, the Nemo Disco 15 compensates through its temperature rating (15 degrees F), which makes it suitable for almost any scenario, except heavy and cold winters. It is also more comfortable than a lot of lighter, smaller sleeping bags out there.

The hood of the Nemo Disco 15 is fully insulated and for ventilation you have the ‘Thermo Gills’, which are two vertical, parallel zippered openings located in the chest area, which allow your body to air without unzipping the entire sleeping bag. You just unzip those panels to vent your body. Your feet are also kept dry and airy thanks to the breathable and waterproof footbox. It also protects you from tent condensation. Also, for added warmth, you’ve got an extra piece of material around your face, to cover your shoulders and neck when you feel a bit chilly. It’s what Nemo calls the ‘blanket fold’.

The Nemo Disco 15 has a water-resistant, 650 premium fluorocarbon-free down fill, which is RDS Certified. This treated fill dries up to 60% faster than regular, untreated down and it doesn’t take in as much moisture either (it absorbs 30% less).

The sleeping bag is also equipped with 2 pockets, one for a pillow (but you can also use it to store a jacket, etc.) and another smaller one with a zipper, in which you can store smaller items.

All in all, the Nemo Disco 15 is a very versatile and complex sleeping bag, it comes with plenty of useful features, it is warm, comfortable and roomy. Its only drawback is its weight and the fact that is not as compressible as other competitors.

Pricing

The Nemo Disco 15 costs $300 and comes with a compression stuff stack and a cotton storage bag. The bag comes with lifetime warranty, just like any other Nemo product.
