SUMMARY:

The Marmot Plasma 15 is a 3-season sleeping bag with a temperature rating of 15 degrees F. It is a perfect option for the pretentious sleepers, who value their comfort above anything else. Although it is mummy shaped, the Plasma 15 is roomier than other bags, which enhances the comfort but decreases its thermal efficiency. The Marmot Plasma is a premium sleeping bag designed with attention to detail and comes with lots of useful features, but overall, we find it to be a bit overpriced.

COMPLETE REVIEW

The Marmot Plasma 15 sleeping bag is a product manufactured by REI (Recreational Equipment Inc.). REI is an American corporation with an impressive experience in this field. REI was founded in 1938 in Seattle, Washington, as a cooperative meant to offer good quality but affordable climbing equipment. REI currently has over 150 retail stores in 36 states. If you become a lifetime member of REI, for a $20 fee, you get lots of benefits and a percentage of the yearly profits. REI offers a wide range of products, from camping and hiking gear, to cycling, running, yoga and more. They have a lot of popular sleeping bags and the Marmot Plasma is definitely one of them.

The Marmot Plasma 15 is a mummy shaped sleeping bag with a temperature rating of 15 degrees Fahrenheit (lower limit: 18 degrees F). The bag comes in two sizes: regular and long. It has 900 - fill-power water resistant goose down, which is the highest fill there is. Unlike most sleeping bags out there, the Marmot Plasma has long, vertical baffles and it is wider than other similar bags, which makes it more comfortable and roomy. The vertical baffles transfer the heat from the core to the upper side and bottom of the sleeping bag. On the other hand, that wide cut takes away from its warmth, because it is not that thermally efficient. This is mostly a 3-season sleeping bag and can’t really cope with low, winter temperatures. It can be used during winter, too, but only in milder conditions.

The Marmot Plasma is unisex and has a left zipper, well insulated collar and useful hood. The fact that it doesn’t come in gender options might be a deal breaker for some. Women sleeping bags have a different cut, usually wider at hips and they narrow down towards the shoulders. The zipper is not that well designed, as it often gets caught in the liner, especially during night, when you can’t see what you are doing. This sleeping bag weighs 1 lb. 2 oz (the regular one) and 1 lb. 3 oz (the long version). It comes with a storage bag and a stuff sack.

The Marmot’s biggest strength in our opinion is the fact that it’s extremely comfortable. It is spacious, very silky smooth and you can notice the attention to details and those little touches that only enhance the luxurious feeling; for instance, the small down pillow in the hood, which will make your sleeping experience even better.

Pricing

Marmot Plasma 15 can’t be found on the REI official website anymore. However, you can find it on other websites for around $680.
