COMPLETE REVIEW

Avalon Bay is a home appliance manufacturer and a family owned company. They make air fryers, ice makers, wine coolers and more.

The Avalon Bay AB-220SS is a digital air fryer with a capacity of 3.5 liters and touch controls.

Here are its main specifications:

  • Dimensions: 22 X 13.5 X 12.7 inches
  • Weight: 14 lbs.
  • Capacity: 3.5 liters
  • Temperature settings: 200-400 degrees F
  • Timer (up to 30 minutes)
  • Voltage: 120V
  • Wattage: 1500W

Design

The AvalonBay 220SS comes just in one color: black. It has a nice, modern design, with a blue LED display and touch controls on the front. It is not very large, which gives you more options on where to place it in your kitchen. It is suited for single people, couples or smaller families. The 3.5 liters capacity means you can cook 2 to 3 portions at once. The AvalonBay 220SS has a large silver handle for taking out the drawer. The handle has a button on it and you have to push it to take the drawer out. The air fryer has non-slip feet that allow you to place it on any surface: wood, marble, plastic, etc.

The metal basket inside is nonstick and the parts of the air fryer are easy to clean and some of them are dishwasher safe.

How it works

The AvalonBay 220SS has a very simple control panel: there is a Power button on the right, a cooking mode (M) on the left and above them you’ll find the + and – settings for the cooking time (left) and temperature (right).

The timer goes in increments of one minute and you can set it from 0 to 30 minutes.

The air fryer comes with a manual in which you will find a chart with frying times for various foods: potatoes and fries, meat and poultry, snacks and baked foods (muffins, cake, sweet snacks, quiche). The chart will clearly show you the maximum amount of food you can place inside the basket, the number of minutes required for it to cook, the indicated temperature, whether you have to shake the food or not halfway through and extra information (if you have to use oil and how much, whether you have to use oven-ready food or not).

There are 8 presets to choose from, which you can access by pressing the M button: French fries, chicken, steak, shrimp, fish, meat, pizza and cake. You can also set everything manually using the aforementioned controls.

Once you turn on the fryer and you choose your manual/preprogrammed settings, you’re good to go. A sound alert (a ding) will let you know when your food is ready. There is also a red light indicator that shows you your food is ready.

The AB-220SS uses the rapid air circulation technology and your food gets evenly cooked in a shorter time. The inside fan technology will also help in removing the fat from the food, because the food will be dried out just the right amount and the oil will drip down on the bottom of the air fryer.

The results are really great, especially on frozen, packaged foods and while you won’t get the genuine deep-fried taste, the AB-220SS comes as close as possible, making your food crunchy, tasty and considerably healthier.

What you shouldn’t cook with the AB-220SS without some preparations is raw meat, as you might find it doesn’t get cooked that well. What you should do before throwing it into the air fryer is pre-sear it.

Overall, the AvalonBay AB-220SS can be a really useful appliance in your kitchen, one that will make you eat healthier while still enjoying your favorite foods. The fryer looks and feels modern thanks to the digital technology, it obtains good results, it is versatile, easy to clean and doesn’t take up too much space in your kitchen. The Avalon Bay air fryer doesn’t just air fry your food, it can also bake it, grill it and roast it.

Pricing

The Avalon Bay AB-220SS can be purchased for approximately $100. In addition to the air fryer and the manual, you also get a recipe book, a non-stick baking dish and a layering rack.
