PROS:
CONS:
The Planctronics BackBeat FIT 500 are Bluetooth, on-ear headphones suited for commuters and people who work out a lot. They have a P2i sweat resistant nano-coating, they are lightweight and sound really good.
Plantronics Inc. is an electronics company based in California. The company produces various audio products such as sports headphones, gaming headsets, Bluetooth headsets and business solutions.
The BackBeat FIT 500 are a very affordable model of Bluetooth headphones, designed for active people.
Here are their main specifications:
The Plantronics BackBeat FIT 500 are almost similar to the BackBeat 500, with the difference that the FIT 500 have a P2i nano-coating which is sweat and moisture resistant, which makes them fit for workout and different sports and activities. The FIT 500 are a good choice for athletes, people who commute and active people in general, more than for indoor use, that is, if you want to benefit from them 100%.
Design
The design of the BackBeat FIT 500 won’t really sweep you off your feet. At this price, you can’t expect too much style and premium feel, but that doesn’t mean that the headphones are poorly built. They are just not among the most aesthetic pair of Bluetooth headphones out there.
The BackBeat are lightweight and the earpads and headband have that soft memory foam you usually find in headphones. The outer panels are moisture-resistant, and although they gather dust quite fast, they can be cleaned easily. The P2i sweat/moisture resistant nano-coating does a great job. This is an on-ear model, so they might not feel equally comfortable for every head/ear, but they are comfortable enough.
The volume controls, micro-USB port and the headphone jack are on the left earpad, while on the right one you’ve got the power/Bluetooth pairing switch, an LED button and another one for taking/rejecting phone calls.
Sound quality
The BackBeat FIT 500 deliver a really good sound. They do emphasize low frequencies, so bass lovers will be pleased by this news, but mid and high-frequencies are present, too. There is no distortion when you are using the headphones at higher volumes and your calls will sound clear and flawless. The overall sound is lively and a bit on the bass side.
While there is no noise-cancelling feature included, the BackBeat FIT 500 isolate pretty well.
The battery life of the Plantronics BackBeat FIT 500 is good. Is not among the best out there, as you can’t squeeze 40 hours of music as with the Beats Solo 3 for instance, but you get up to 18 hours of listening and 16 hours of talk time. There is also a DeepSleep mode which preserves the battery charge for up to 6 months if the FIT 500 are left on or they are out of range, according to company claims.
In conclusion, we think that the BackBeat FIT 500 are a really good value for the money. You get a great sound quality, sweat/moisture protection so you can wear your headphones while you work out or commute and you get an above the average battery life. All this, for a decent price of $140.
On the Plantronics website, the BackBeat FIT 500 are priced at $139.99. In the box you get the headphones themselves, a carrying pouch, the 3.5mm cable, the instructions and a micro-USB charging cable.
