The TCL P607 is one of the best 4K TVs on a budget. Although TCL might not be as appreciated as the big players such as Sony, Samsung, LG and others, their P series TVs are incredibly high-quality and can even compete with these aforementioned big brands in a lot of aspects.

The P series from TCL only comes in the 55” size and is an incredible value. It has all the features you need: HDR (with Dolby Vision support, too), UHD, full-array local dimming with 72 zones (contrast control zones), wide color gamut and the very capable, complex and user-friendly Roku TV Smart Platform. All these for under $700.

The P607 has an ordinary design. It comes with two chrome-colored legs, plastic borders and black bezels. The back is made of metal. Its maximum thickness is 2.99”. It has a very cute, small and simple Roku remote control that has a headphone jack and voice control (search only). The headphones are a very useful addition for when you want to watch TV without disturbing others around you. You get shortcuts to Netflix, Hulu, Sling and Starz and you have to sync it to the TV when you set it up. The beauty of it is you don’t have to point it directly at the TV in order to work.

There are 5 buttons on the back of the TV, which control the volume, power and menu for the inputs.

The performance quality of the P607 is really impressive for the money and as we’ve already mentioned it, this TV can definitely compete with much pricier counterparts in terms of picture quality.

It has a great input lag and contrast and a low motion blur, it is great for gaming and provides an excellent image when watching HDR movies. The full-array local dimming zones, or ‘contrast color zones’ to quote TCL enhance the brighter and darker parts and you get a very good image even with SDR and HD content. The Wide Color Gamut with the TCL NBP Photon technology produces rich, intense colors. As for the shortcomings of the P607, we noticed that it has a below the average off-angle viewing and you can see distortions in color.

The sound of the P607 is average but we were impressed by the lack of distortion at higher volumes. However, frequency-wise, don’t expect any miracles. There are no powerful lows and an additional sound bar will always be welcome.

The Roku TV platform is a dream to use. It is clean, responsive, well-organized and offers access to thousands of apps. Everything is easy to operate and to customize. There is no lag, everything runs smoothly and you can also benefit from the Roku app if you want to use your smartphone/tablet with this TV.

Overal, the P607 is not the best 4K TV in the 55” range, but it is definitely among the best on a budget. It has a good picture quality, an intuitive interface and a very appealing price.

Pricing

You can buy the TCL 55P607 on Amazon for $650. In the box you also get the remote control, batteries, a manual, earphones, earbuds and a composite adapter.
