SUMMARY:

The Samsung Q6F is more of a low end model from the Samsung’s QLED line up. It was released in 2018 and it is affordable, thin and with an elegant design. While it can’t really compete with premium models in terms of picture quality, the Q6F has a smooth, bright image, it’s smart, great for watching your favorite movies, for playing video games and even for being used as a PC monitor.

COMPLETE REVIEW

The Samsung Q6FN, also known as Q6F or simply Q6, is one of the most affordable QLED TVs released by Samsung in 2018. While it’s a lower end model, it still manages to bring to the table some of the newest features and technologies developed by Samsung.

The Q6F comes in several sizes, 5 to be more exact: 49, 55, 65, 75 and 82 inches. These are more size options than you get with other QLED models released from Samsung.

We are going to focus on the 65 inch version in this review.

Design

Just like with all the QLED TVs from Samsung, the Q6F also benefits from the quantum dot color technology, being able to reproduce up to more than a billion shades.

The 65 inch version of the Q6F has an elegant look and that familiar 360 degree design Samsung boasts on. The TV looks just as good from back, front or the side. It comes with a VESA mount which measures 400 x 400 mm. It has detachable legs which can easily be mounted or detached without even needing a screwdriver. They are made of metal and plastic and have a silver finish. The Q6FN looks slim, has thin borders with a metallic finish as well. The inputs are on the back.

Here are the main specification for the Samsung Q6FN:

  • Screen size: 5” (diagonally)
  • Resolution: 3,840 x 2,160; 4K UHD Resolution
  • Dimensions with stand (W x H x D): 56.9 x 35.8 x 11.2 inches
  • Weight with stand: 54.7 lbs.
  • 4 HDMI
  • 2 USB
  • Ethernet
  • 1 RF connector for antenna and cable
  • 1 digital audio out
  • Edge-lit LED
  • Motion rate: 240 (120 Hz refresh rate)
  • Dolby Audio
  • Sound output (RMS): 40W
  • WiFi, WiFi Direct
  • Bluetooth
  • Bixby voice assistant
  • OSD Languages: English, French, Spanish

Smart features

This Samsung model also features the Tizen platform. It comes with a quad processor and a lot of preinstalled apps: you’ve got your Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Videos, Cloud Games and more. There is also the ‘Smart Things’ home assistant app, which can connect the TV to devices from your home, from smartphone, to your fridge and other smart appliances. The Q6FN also includes the Bixby Voice Assistant, which can browse through channels for you, search different files, etc., by simply using your voice.

In conclusion, the Samsung Q6FN 4K TV is definitely not a top-end model, but nevertheless, an affordable, elegantly looking and smart device. It does have its shortcomings, but none of them is a deal breaker and this TV does compensate through its really smart, new features that you are definitely going to appreciate.

Pricing

On the Samsung official website the Q6F (65”) has a price of $1,800 and shipping is free. In the box you also get the 2 feet, a remote control with 2 AA batteries, 4 adapters for wall mount and the user manual/setup guide.

Performance

The color reproduction on the Q6F is really good, colors are accurate and HDR content looks great. This TV supports HDR10+ content, although you won’t find too much content in this format, aside from Amazon streaming and some Blu-ray discs from 20th Century Fox. The lack of localized dimming will be noticed, but the overall picture quality and wide color gamut are more than satisfying, even extraordinary, when you are watching HDR images.

When it comes to brightness, the Q6F impresses with its 1,422 nits. However, in terms of color contrast and black levels, this model cannot compete with top models. When viewing at specific angles, the results are not exactly great. If you are moving 20 degrees off the front of the TV, you will notice some color fading and black level degradation. Although Samsung added anti-reflective screen on a lot of other models, the Q6F was left out.

In terms of motion blur, the Samsung Q6F is again really impressive. Fast images are not a problem, the pixel response time is really good. Its 240 Hz dimming frequency can also be reduced at only 60Hz, which is a really useful feature especially if you like to watch sports or play video games.

Gamers will also be pleased by the way the Q6F performs. This model comes with Freesync technology, which will offer you a smooth gaming experience and a really reduced lag.

The sound quality of the Q6FN is average. This TV is not the loudest, but at least it’s clear enough. However, for a really quality audio experience you should consider investing in a separate sound system.
