PROS:
CONS:
The Vizio M65 E0 is a mid-range UHD display. It doesn’t have a built-in TV tuner, but it does compensate with an incredible image quality, HDR (both HDR10 and Dolby Vision), WCG and plenty of smart features. It has a competitive price and a close to high-end TV quality.
The Vizio M-65 E0 TV is developed by Vizio, an American company that specializes in consumer electronics. The company was founded in 2002 and is based in California. Although they manufacture a lot of electronic products, they are primarily renowned for their flat-screen TVs.
The M-65 SmartCast E0 is a smart 4K TV with Dolby Vision HDR, Active Full Array and a competitive price.
The M Series TVs produced by Vizio come in several sizes (from 50” to 70”). In this review, we’re going to focus on the 65 inch version.
Here are the main specifications:
The M65 has a flat, simple design and has 2 separate metal feet which are V-shaped. The controls are placed on the left side of the back. It is not as slim and elegant as premium TV sets and has nothing special about its design. Vizio focused more on the inside of the device, rather than its appearances.
The clicker is not as bulky as average remote controls and has a navigation pad. It is slim and not too overcrowded with buttons, but you do get everything you need, including dedicated buttons for Netflix, Amazon and Vudu. There’s voice control too, if you prefer it.
One drawback of the Vizio M65 is that it doesn’t have a built-in TV tuner. That means you’ll have to buy one separately if you want to receive over-the-air channels or local ones through antenna. So technically, the Vizio M65 is not so much a TV as it is a UHD display.
When it comes to the image quality of the Vizio, the M65 performs surprisingly well, especially considering that it costs way less than high-end 4K TVs. It has a full-array local dimming, supports both HDR10 and Dolby Vision and comes with wide color gamut, a feature usually found in their more expensive models. The Xtreme Black Engine Plus technology and the Ultra Color Spectrum work together to provide an impressive picture quality, with great shadow detail and black levels, rich colors, impressive contrast ratio and a brightness boost offered by the XLED Plus technology. The viewing angle is not the best, as is the integrated sound. While it is clear enough and average in quality, the low frequencies are not powerful enough and you’ll most likely feel the need to invest in a sound bar sooner or later.
The M65 has 4 HDMI ports, but only one supports HDMI 2.0a, the other ones only support HDMI 1.4.
The SmartCast interface of the Vizio M65 is easy to operate but has a limited number of built-in apps and a limited functionality. You’ll get the basics: Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, NBC and a few more apps, but it lacks the most common music streaming services. There’s no Spotify or YouTube. The interface can also be a bit laggy when browsing through the menus or when you’re trying to load Netflix for instance. However, you don’t have to necessarily rely on Vizio’s operating system, you can also use your phone and built-in Chromecast to stream compatible apps on the TV and you can choose between thousands of available apps.
The Vizio M65 E0 is a good compromise. While it’s not exactly a TV, it does have 4K capabilities, Dolby Vision HDR and smart features that are normally found in much pricier TV sets. Its price is definitely a bargain, so if you don’t mind the SmartCast limitations or the lack of a TV tuner, the M65 is a valid option.
On the official Vizio website, the M65-E0 can be purchased for $900. The TV comes with one year parts and labor warranty and free technical support for life.
