SUMMARY:

The LG OLED C7P is a high-end 4K TV with a minimal, elegant design, an incredible picture quality and motion blur. At the time of writing this review, the 65” version had a promotional price (the price dropped significantly by almost 50%), which makes the C7 a way more affordable option than most competitors in its range.

COMPLETE REVIEW

The LG OLEDC7P was released in 2017 and is among the best OLED 4K TVs on the market. The C7 is available in two sizes, 55” and 65” and strives to offer ‘a cinema-quality experience’, as stated on the LG website. We’re going to focus on the 65” version.

Main specifications:

  • Shipping dimensions (W x H x D): 66 x 37.4 x 8.1 inches
  • Weight with stand: 54.5 lbs.
  • Weight without stand: 50.3 lbs.
  • Diagonal size: 64.5 inches
  • Resolution: 3840 x 2160
  • HDMI ports: 4
  • USB: 3
  • Operating System: webOS 3.5
  • Active HDR with Dolby Vision
  • Magic remote control
  • WiFi Connectivity

The design of the C7 is simply beautiful. It is incredibly slim and the stand has a metallic finish. The controls of the C7 are positioned on the rear. The thin design (max. 1.97” at the thicker body) makes it extremely elegantly looking.

In addition to the HDMI and USB ports, the C7 also has a coaxial jack for cable, an Ethernet input, optical audio, an RS232 control jack. The C7 comes with Vesa 300 x 200 wall mount and cable management design.

The picture quality of the LG OLED C7 is one of its biggest strength. The HDR technology has support for both HDR10 and Dolby Vision. The colors and contrast are gorgeous, as are the black levels. The C7 displays a beautiful image even on 720p and SD content, maintaining superb contrast ratios and vivid colors. The color range is very wide, well above the standard color gamut. The only negative thing we’ve noticed is that the C7 can be quite reflective, especially when the image is darker.

The ‘Magic Remote’ clicker has both buttons and an air mouse function that allows you to simply point the remote at the TV and move the cursor. Just like with many other competitors, the dedicated Netflix and Amazon buttons are present on the Magic Remote as well and there’s also a microphone for voice control.

The WebOS 3.5 operating system does lack some of the apps compatible with Android TV for instance, but you do get the basics, such as Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, YouTube, Vudu and others. You can also download apps from the LG Content Store.

The interface is well organized and user-friendly. It is divided into 3 sections: inputs, settings, apps and all three have dedicated buttons on the clicker.

When it comes to sound, there haven’t been any major improvements in the C7 model, compared to the 2015 and 2016 models. The speakers aren’t bad but they are average. The integrated sound system won’t blow your mind, so you might want to think about investing in something better. However, the C7 does provide more bass than the B7A model for instance.

Power consumption is another minor drawback with the LG C7, but that’s a common issue with OLED TVs. In Bright mode and with no power saving feature enabled, the C7 eats approx. 310 watts.

The C7 really shines when it comes to motion, prevailing pretty much any LCD set we’ve tested. The motion blur is almost unnoticeable. The LG C7 behaves exceptionally well in gaming.

The C7 is definitely a step up for LG in terms of top-end 4K TVs. It is thin, elegant, has an excellent image quality and it currently costs less than other 4K TVs in its range.

Pricing

You can buy the LG C7 (the 65” version) on Amazon for $2,545.
