VEGAS Movie Studio 14 Platinum proved itself to be worthy to be on our side-by-side comparison review of the best video editing software on the market. It has most of the tools we looked for in similar software and it's simple enough to use by users of any proficiency. Although it’s missing some important tools that would make it an even more attractive product, VEGAS Movie Studio 14 Platinum is still worth checking out.

VEGAS Movie Studio 14 Platinum has a standard timeline workflow you use to modify your videos. Since the main interface is clean and leaves very little room for confusion, users who have previously used similar programs shouldn’t have too many issues mastering this app. This video creator has 200 media editing tracks you can use to add video or audio and further customize it. Although this isn’t the most we’ve seen in our review, 200 tracks should be more than enough even for professional users. Even though more experienced users shouldn’t have much trouble learning the ropes, those not so tech-savvy might encounter a few difficulties. Unlike most other video editors in our review VEGAS Movie Studio 14 Platinum doesn’t have a storyboard that would allow for simpler video creation.

This movie creator has an average sized library of preprogramed objects like transitions, templates, effects etc. Aside from its more basic features, VEGAS also has a number of more advanced tools professionals would find useful. Like other top tier software, the app includes a chroma key, audio mixer, a 3D editor, masking tools and many more. Although most of these tools have a very apparent position on the main interface, some of them are hidden deep within the software so you might need to check the product guide to find them the first time.

Any serious video editing software these days has to come with a multi-cam mode. This tool lets you import and edit video of the same event from multiple different sources. Once you add your videos, you can rearrange them and smooth out the transitions between them so you’re getting a unique, homogenic movie from the start. This kind of multiple-angle footage usually occurs when people decide to record smartphone videos of the same event they’re witnessing. Although it is possible to do all this manually, it’s very time consuming and requires a high level of knowledge.

Despite some of its impressive advanced features, VEGAS still significantly falls behind some of the highest ranked video editing software in our review. For example, you can’t import or edit 360-degreee videos, nor can you apply an effect that only follows a specific object throughout the video which is something a motion tracking feature would allow. Although these tools aren’t crucial for basic video editing, if you’re a more experienced user and you’re looking for serious software that has all the advanced feature essentials, VEGAS just simply doesn’t deliver.

Like most other movie makers, this app also has its own exporting app the Make Movie Wizard that lets you save your video on your computer, burn it onto a DVD/Blu-Ray or upload it to Facebook, Vimeo or YouTube.
