COMPLETE REVIEW

Corel VideoStudio Pro X10 is a video editing software that’s perfect for any hobbyist or a novice editor who wants to create videos for their friends and family. This app has all the best basic elements we look for in any video editor. Aside from a wide selection of transitions, effects etc., Corel VideoStudio Pro X10 also offers many video templates. Although it is great for beginner users, the app also has all the hallmark advanced features we found in similar top tier products. When you purchase the software, bundled with the video editor, you’re also getting a video creator app called FastFlick that helps make videos automatically.

Features

Corel has two main editing modes: Timeline and Storyboard. The timeline is probably the go-to editing tool for most professional users since it’s most commonly used to create music and entertainment videos. If you’re more of a hobbyist than a professional, you will probably spend more time using the Storyboard mode since it’s a lot simpler to use and you can easily do some robust edits to your videos. If you wish to fine-tune your project, you can always switch to the Timeline and with a little help, transform your amateur video into a high-quality project.

When we were doing our performance tests on Corel VideoStudio Pro X10 by creating a 45-second video project, the software was slower than many other video editors we tested. One of the reasons for this is that the app has only one main editing track you can place and modify your video on. This severely limits you from using multiple source footage and doing more advanced edits.

The app comes with a wide selection of effects and transitions, together with dozens of tiles to choose from. Unlike with some other similar software, Coral’s effects library is fully integrated when you buy the software, so you don’t have to go through time consuming downloads every time you need a new effect.

Aside from its two main modes, this video editing software also has the Instant Project feature that allows even the most inexperienced users to create and modify their own videos. It’s very simple to use since you only have to select and drag the footage you want to the timeline. You can also easily add a theme or use a template for the quickest results. To let the software do all the work entirely, you can use the FastFlick app that comes bundled with Corel.

Even though Corel VideoStudio Pro X10 was designed for casual users or hobbyists, it also has many advanced tools we found with similar top tier video editing software. You can make use of the chroma key as well as modify and manipulate audio on a professional level. The app fully supports ultra-high definition 4K video. Like other top video editors, VideoStudio has a multi-cam mode and a motion tracking feature. The multi-cam lets you take footage from different sources and merge it into one smooth video. The motion tracking feature allows you to select specific objects within the video and apply effect only to them, without affecting the rest of the footage. Despite these amazing advanced features, professional users will notice the apparent lack of an image stabilizer tool. Although it’s not of crucial value, this tool can come in useful if you’re editing video that was taken by a shaky phone or a tablet.

When you finish creating and editing your video, you’re going to want to export it. Corel VideoStudio Pro X10 supports all major audio and video formats, or you can upload it to YouTube, Flickr, Vimeo etc. If you need a physical copy you can burn your finished product onto a DVD/Blu-Ray.

Performance

To make sure that each product that ends up on our top ten best video editing software list really deserves to be there, we created three tests to evaluate the ease-of-use, output quality and the expediency of every program. And although Corel VideoStudio Pro X10 didn’t get the perfect result in all three tests, it performed well above average and deserved to be among the top three video editing software we would recommend.

VideoStudio did very well in the ease-of-use test since it proved to be very simple to use even to the most novice users. The main interface is simple and clean with all the options clearly marked for faster and more efficient navigation. All basic functions like adding object onto the timeline as well as moving, enhancing and trimming your video are very easy to get the hang of. If you need to use any specific tools that are not displayed in the main window, you can simply access them by right-clicking on your timeline. Corel VideoStudio Pro X10 is one of the easier video editors we’ve come across since we started our review process.

To measure the quality a compressed video, we took a 4K video and used VideoStudio to compress it to a smaller size. We then checked for any king of imperfection like blurring, pixelation, compression artifacts and more. Since any compression is bound to leave at least some trail on the video quality, Corel VideoStudio Pro X10 did amazingly well by only causing minor impurities in smaller details of the picture. Despite the minimal flaws we noticed, unless you’re specifically looking for these imperfections, they won’t significantly impair your viewing experience.

The final stage of the test consisted of our experts creating a 45-second test video and measuring the time each video editor took. Corel managed to create the project in just over 60 minutes, which is a little more than the industry average of 46 minutes. Once the video was complete, it took the app more than 90 seconds to export it. Although this result is also above the average time other video editors in our review took, it’s still much faster than the time of some other products we reviewed.
