McAfee showed to be best at securing Windows XP run PCs. On most other operating systems tested, including Windows 10, McAfee showed great difficulty in effectively blocking threats from infecting its host PC. Despite its poor results, as an antivirus protection program, McAfee still did better than the pre-installed Windows Defender on Windows 10. The company is also among the very few antivirus software companies that offer full coverage for all your devices at no extra charge. With its Virus Protection Pledge, McAfee promises your money back if you’re not fully satisfied with their product.
Now a part of Intel Security, McAfee is a well-recognized brand in the antivirus industry. During the tests performed in spring 2016, AV-Test lab graded McAfee Antivirus Plus with a very low mark since it failed to recognize, differentiate and protect against known and new threats. Scoring barely above the 50 percent mark, McAfee still proved to be a better protection solution than Windows Defender that comes standard with Windows OS.

The premium and most expensive antivirus bundle is the McAfee Total Protection that allows for additional features like social media and firewall protection. McAfee also has classic premium tools like an automatic USB scan and a gaming mode fully integrated in its packages. The installation process is simplified and comes with pre-defined features so you have instant protection without having to reboot your PC. A well-designed dashboard is one of the elements that make McAfee Antivirus a great product it is. It’s easily accessible and fast so any scan or feature is at a click away.

When tested by the AV-Test lab McAfee received a perfect score for correctly identifying good data and letting it pass its defenses, while at the same time blocking real threats on Windows 10 computer. While it was running scans, the antivirus program slowed down its host PC more than it is allowed by the industry standards so it received very poor marks on the protection test. Tested on Windows 8, McAfee showed a completely different result by excelling in almost every category. It does well to detect both known and new threats while not slowing down your PC significantly. When the tests were run on a Window 7 PC, McAfee received poor results in all categories except usability where it performed above average. McAfee Antivirus worked best on Windows XP where it managed to fully protect the host PC from incoming threats while keeping the use of the computers resources to a minimum.
McAfee has a well-organized, easily accessible site with a sizable knowledge base and a FAQ section.
