PROS:
CONS:
York Photo Labs is an average digital photo printing service. It is not too expensive, but not the cheapest, it has decent editing tools and options to create your photo book, but doesn’t really stand out from the crowd. We didn’t like the fact that it doesn’t support TIFF files, but we were really impressed with the quality of the images: color, clarity and so on.
York is a digital photo printing service with more than 20 years of experience in business.
The company is based in Seattle, WA and offers various printing services: metallic prints and posters, photo books, calendars, personalized gifts, mugs, blankets, pillows and more.
In terms of photo books, York has 3 options: custom hardbound cover, classic hardbound cover and softcover books.
Each of the three options includes more choices that can come in 5 sizes: 4X6, 5X7, 8X8, 8X11, 12X12.
York allows you to upload your files directly from your computer or from Facebook. It also offers unlimited storage space on their website. You can also share your photos via social media channels (Facebook, Twitter) or e-mail.
On the downside, one deal breaker for the more pretentious customer might be the fact that it doesn’t allow you to import TIFF files.
However, when it comes to print quality, we were very pleased with the colors and clarity of the images. York really strives to match the originals as much as they can.
Once you upload your photos and choose a theme, you can do a little editing and cropping. You can apply some effects, rotate images, change font styles and color and mess around with the contrast, brightness and so on. You can rearrange photos on the page, remove some of them, etc. There is no red eye removal tool.
You can also use the auto-fill feature and customize pages with clip art, text and backgrounds.
You can create a photo book within 30 minutes, or make it as an open project, add photos in several steps and complete it only in a year.
What we noticed about their website, besides the fact that it looks really outdated, empty and unattractive, was the fact that it is often too slow.
When it comes to shipping, York claims it will process your order within 3-5 days. Shipping times will vary depending on the type of shipping service you choose, location and so on. Your product will arrive within 3 to 10 business days, if you opt for standard shipping in US. They also ship to Canada, Hawaii and Alaska, but it may take longer.
They also offer overnight delivery and two-day delivery.
You can choose between standard, 2-day and overnight delivery. Prices for standard delivery start from $4.99 for a 8X8 custom softcover book and go as high as $7.99 for a 12X12 custom cover book.
Prices for York photo books are not bad, but not the best either. They are average.
A 4X6 custom softcover book with 20 pages is $9.99. Each additional 2 pages will cost you 75c.
A 12X12 custom hardcover book with 20 pages is $49.99. Each additional 2 pages are $1.95.
Photo books can have maximum150 pages. You can’t pay via PayPal, only with your credit card, which is a thumbs down.

York didn’t focus a lot on having a useful, well-conceived website or a strong customer support. You can only contact them by e-mail or phone, during their working schedule: 5 days a week, Monday – Friday, from 9 am to 5 pm EST.
There is no live chat and the website is pretty useless. All the self-help resources you’ll find are their FAQ section and a blog.
