SUMMARY:

ID Watchdog is an ID theft protection service that was founded in 2004. The company offers other financial services as well, as credit monitoring and credit repair services.

ID Watchdog is one of the few, if not the only service that offers restoration assistance for previously existing thefts, not just the ones happening while you are a member.

They have an A+ rating with the BBB and claim they’ve never failed to restore an identity so far.

COMPLETE REVIEW

The company is based in Denver, Colorado.

As we already mentioned, one of the biggest advantages with ID Watchdog is the fact that they help you restore your ID even they happened before you signed up with them or even if you are not using their monitoring services. Other services only offer assistance for the thefts that take place during your membership with them.

Both plans include the standard $1 million dollar identity theft insurance.

The company also has a pricing plan for families, although you can’t find it advertised anywhere on their website. If you want to sign up for it or just find out more details about it, you have to call them.

ID Watchdog sends you immediate notifications in case there are any suspicious activities on your behalf: a new account was opened, passwords were changed, there were suspicious transactions from your account and so on.

Medical care providers can benefit from their NPI (National Provider Registry) monitoring for doctors. The service will let you know if there are any changes to your National Provider Registry, so in case anyone tries to file false Medicaid, you will be notified.

Although ID Watchdog includes the basic services offered by competitors, it does have its limitations. Some other useful features are missing, such as: removal from credit card mailing lists, lost wallet assistance, antivirus.

The interface is straightforward and user-friendly. Everything is easily accessible and the dashboard keeps you posted 24/7 on how your information is being used, if there were any changes or suspicious data found. By default, the monitoring services are turned on but you can easily turn them off, make any updates or changes to your account.

So, on each login, customers can find information on their current monitoring status, identity profile report and, for members who sign up for the Platinum plan, about their credit reports and credit scores.

In case of ID theft, the service offers full support with your recovery. Unlike other companies that just offer standard assistance, meaning you have to basically do everything on your own, ID Watchdog will assign you a resolution agent who will pretty much do all the hard work: write letters, get in touch with creditors, solve various issues and so on.

How does it work

When you sign up with ID Watchdog, the service will perform a thorough scan and search thousands of databases for your personal information. Then, it will create a Baseline Profile based on the information it’s found and ask for your approval. The databases are rescanned on a monthly basis, in order to make sure they detect any suspicious changes. If everything looks fine and matches your profile, they’ll send you a report stating just that. Otherwise, you will receive notifications with the potential alterations.

ID Watchdog’s website also has a constantly updated blog with information on different monitoring services and other financial aspects/issues.

Pricing

ID Watchdog has 2 plans: ID Watchdog Plus and ID Watchdog Platinum.

ID Watchdog Plus starts at $14.95/month and includes identity monitoring, black market surveillance, email and text notifications, full-service identity restoration, credit report monitoring and national provider identifier (NPI) alerts.

ID Watchdog Platinum costs $19,95/month and includes all the features of the Plus plan and credit reports & scores from all three bureaus.

Help/Support

ID Watchdog offers 24/7 customer support by phone or email.

They have pretty short waiting times and knowledgeable reps. You can also call them in case you are not satisfied with their services and wish to cancel your account. However, there is no FAQ section or other general information on ID theft, so their knowledge base is pretty dull.

You can find ID Watchdog on social media channels, too: Facebook, Twitter and on LinkedIn.
