Streamlight The Siege is a great value for the money. It is LED-based, affordable, lightweight, waterproof, has an ergonomic design and has several lighting modes, including an SOS one. It has a max. output of 540 lumens.
Streamlight is a company based in Pennsylvania and it is renowned for its high-quality flashlights and lanterns. Among others, they manufacture weapon mounted lights, headlamps, handheld flashlights, lanterns and more.
The Siege is a LED lantern that uses 3 D-cell batteries and offers some great features at a decent price.
Here are the main specs of the lantern:
Design
The Siege is a well-constructed device. The body is made of durable polymer and the base is rubberized for more stability. The polycarbonate cover is anti-glare and makes sure that the light is evenly distributed in a 360 degree area. If, however, you need a more focused beam of light, you can remove the cover.
The Siege is available in coyote tan and it is lightweight. It has an ergonomic handle and incorporated spring-loaded D-rings on both the top and the bottom, so that you can have multiple choices on how to hang it.
As we’ve mentioned it, the top of the lantern can be unscrewed and you can use it without it, too.
The Siege is IPX7 rated meaning it is waterproof and you can submerge it in water (up to 1m depth). It is also floatable and can resist to impacts. It can take a 2m fall.
The lantern has only one button which is recessed, so you don’t have to worry that you’re going to accidentally press it and turn the lantern on. There is also a battery level indicator, which changes colors depending on the battery level. It is green when the lantern is fully charged, it turns to yellow, red and flashing red, as the batteries deplete.
How it works
The Siege from Streamlight has 2 main modes: White LED and Red LED. Each of those 2 has their additional modes.
The White LED, which uses 4 C4 LEDs has 3 settings: high, medium and low. You switch the settings by simply quickly pressing the power button. On the high setting, the lantern can put out 540 lumens and can last for 30 hours. The medium setting can produce 275 lumens and has a runtime of 70 hours and the low setting – 55 lumens and a runtime of 295 hours.
The Red LED mode, which uses 1 red LED, has an output of 10 lumens and runs for 235 hours. The Red LED mode has an emergency/flash/SOS mode which is great for signaling and in this mode, the lantern can last for 430 hours.
The Siege is powered by 3 D-cell alkaline batteries which are not included in the package, you have to buy them separately.
The Streamlight Siege is a great lantern, with a great and ergonomic design and several useful features. The rubberized base, the IPX7 rating, the spring-loaded D-rings, the impressive runtime (up to 12 days on the lowest setting) make it a reliable lighting device in various scenarios: whether you are going camping, hunting, for emergency situations and so on.
The Streamlight Siege can be purchased for $35. The D-cell batteries are not included. The lantern comes with a 2-year warranty.
