PROS:
CONS:
The Black Diamond Titan is one of the most powerful and sturdy camping lanterns from Black Diamond. It can put out a maximum of 250 lumens on its brightest setting and the four D-cell batteries last for 24 hours on high and up to 168 hours on the lowest setting. One of the best features of the lantern are its double-hook hanging system and the fact that it is collapsible, meaning you can compress it to make it smaller and easier to fit in your camping gear. The Black Diamond is LED powered, which means it will last you longer, both battery and bulb wise.
The Black Diamond Titan lantern is a camping lantern developed by Black Diamond Equipment, an American company. Black Diamond is based in Utah, was founded in 1957 and it mainly specializes in outdoor equipment, especially for skiing, climbing and other mountain activities. The company currently has offices on two more continents: Europe and Asia.
The Black Diamond Titan lantern is a small, collapsible lighting equipment, of only 6.5X9.8 inches, perfect for base camp activities. The QuadPower LED bulb inside it produces a light of maximum 250 lumens, on the brightest setting, providing a 360-degree field of view that allows you to see everything surrounding you. The lowest brightness is of only 16 lumens. The light can cover up a 45 feet diameter. You can also use it in emergency situations or to light up your backyard.
One of the biggest advantages of using the Black Diamond Titan is the fact that you can compress it to make it even smaller (only 7.9 inches), in case you need more space for other items. That is why this lantern is ideal not only for RV or car camping but also backpacking, if you don’t mind its weight. The lantern weighs around 1,8 pounds with no batteries. When it is folded, the power button is also covered, so you can transport it safely without accidentally pressing the button and drain out your battery juice.
The Titan comes with a double-hook hanging system so that you have more options on where to place/hang it and the bottom (with rubber) is water and damp resistant. The lantern has an IP X4 waterproof rating.
This camping lantern works with 4 D-cell replaceable batteries and they can last you for 168 hours on the lowest setting or for 24 hours on the brightest setting, which is pretty impressive. The lantern doesn’t come with batteries, you have to purchase those separately. But it does come with a power indicator that shows you how much battery life you have left. Although you do have to worry about replacing batteries, at least it’s easy to use and you don’t have to deal with any messy gasoline or liquid fuel, toxic leaks or repelling smells, as it is the case with gas powered camping lanterns. D-batteries are also pretty common and, as we’ve already mentioned, long-lasting, so you don’t have to worry that much about running out of power too fast.
Although you can’t find it anymore on the Black Diamond official website, you can still browse for it on the Internet. You can find it on eBay for instance, at around $40, shipping NOT included.
