SUMMARY:

For some, most email marketing services may look a bit complicated and messy, while many people will not require much more than just some basic sending options; something that will not take out much time to learn, configure, set up and manage. Even better if it offers a broad range of plans and product customizations, so the users only pay what they’re actually using. This is the strategy of Vertical Response, which also includes certain features to keep the pace with most of the other email providers.

COMPLETE REVIEW

VerticalResponse may not be one of the most innovative and leading edge email marketing platforms, but it is not stuck in time either. The features you will find with it are enough for most small and medium enterprises. It pairs its simple structure with one of the most praised customer support teams, who makes sure you get what you actually want. This service can be limited in some aspects, but with the help of the great customization options you can still make compelling campaign content.

One of the strongest sides of VerticalResponse is a full-feature free plan. Compared to other services that offer free plans, this one comes with a bit lower list length limit, making it good for absolute beginners or training purposes, but it is fairly enough to learn whether this platform is good for you. With the Free plan users can send up to 4,000 mails per month, and even get access to live customer support, which is very hard to find. Note that with some providers even those who pay may not get an opportunity to reach out to live support. Free users can use the service as long as they want, without providing their credit card details.

Features included in the Free plan: access to responsive templates and image library, segmentation, basic analytics with reports, HTML editor, Facebook and Twitter sharing, auto welcome emails. All messages sent through the Free will carry a “Powered by VerticalResponse” branding.

Integration possibilities are good, and there are plenty of campaign-tweaking tools you can integrate with your VerticalResponse account. Integrations with CRM and other business support tools exist through Zapier.

Email Creation And Sending

Just like most of the other services, VerticalResponse features an email editor which supports drag-and-drop visual editing, code editing and code importing. The template library offers some plain, generic looking templates, but users can customize them to get a more unique and appealing design. You can edit emails, newsletters and signup forms or import your own codes and images. This platform sports a strong image manipulation interface, which is comparable with Photoshop when it comes to email image tweaking functionality.

The deliverability success of VerticalResponse is the largest downside of this service, so you will really need to try hard and make strong newsletter content in order to overcome this. The reason for the weak delivery success score may be the lack of the spam checking option, which lets many of its customers cast spam over the Internet, knowingly or not, which in turn may affect the platform’s sender reputation.

List Options

The list building possibilities of VerticalResponse are plentiful, just like with many other email services, so you can add them manually, paste them from a file, import as a file or from another service through an integration. Some integrations of VerticalResponse help the natural growth of your mailing lists using sweepstakes, landing pages, forms, etc. There are some list nurturing integrations too, that can track invalid and non-responsive addresses, and try to push abandoning website visitors back.

List segmentation is complex, and it is another drawback of this service. Segmentation criteria are limited, so if you want to create advanced list segments you will have to do it manually or use some other program.

Bottom Line

VerticalResponse is a service that may not offer a full set of features as seen in some other email marketing services, but it is still good for most users who don’t rely on email marketing as the main way of growing their customer base. The feature list is still long enough for most small and medium businesses, even in the Free plan. Use this opportunity to learn email basic marketing if you’re a beginner and switch to a paid plan or pay-as-you go once you learn how to make a compelling email copy.

6-month and 12-month prepayment discounts exist, but VerticalResponse will reveal the exact amount once you provide more details about your email marketing needs. For seasonal senders, there are pay-as-you-go packages which start at $7.50 for 300 email credits. The other options are:

  • 1,000 mails $25

  • 2,000 mails: $45

  • 200,000 mails for $1,500

  • 375,000 mails for $2,813

By buying more than 500,000 credits at once, clients can negotiate the price and other conditions for using this service.
